I think that WHAT really matters IS that the fans recognize the quality of the band because we can feel the sincerity in each album they produce. If, it is underrated, it is because the music industry just cares about generating money. We, on the other hand, want quality music. CONGRATS A-ha!

I came here today to try to find out if there was any interview on the subject of this song, because the first time I heard it I thought it would be a cry of liberation in relation to the music publishers that grabbed groups with slavery contracts. Many groups from the 80's were tied to slave contracts and then we only heard them again many years later.

I am not aware of their popularity in Europe, I am happy for them if they are or were. I enjoyed their big hit here in America, I was much younger then. I didn't mean to insult them if that's what you thought, I believe the video for Take On Me is or was the most popular ever in America.

@@sherryg6213 I am one of those two left foot guys, and a little shy. I don't want to be criticized so I won't attempt to dance unless I'm alone and nobody is watching. Yes, certain music just makes you want to move, and I have caught myself dancing as I sit, moving my feet and hands, and swaying or just finger and toe tapping.

They were a one-hit-wonder, a BIG HIT but only one here in the USA. They took off like a rocket and never returned.
@user39h2j8il2 жыл бұрын
They had to make a choice: Europe or the USA. Thankfully they chose Europe. Their music is essentially based on northern European experience which makes it so different, so unique. Had they relocated to the USA that would have changed their style and we would never have had the raw, emotive, soul searching lyrics and melodies. I'm so glad they chose Europe.

@@user39h2j8il Considering that Paul, who is essentially the main songwriter in the group, has lived in the US (New York City) for many years, I’m really not sure your analysis is accurate. I think they could all still have produced the same wonderfully emotive music if they had all lived in the US all these years. Also, according to a-ha on the new documentary (a-ha: The Movie), they believe they “lost” America when they insisted on Manhattan Skyline being a single. They also said they have *always* wanted to get America back - so again, it’s absolutely untrue to say that the band *chose* Europe over America. That definitely is *not* what a-ha says happened or why, and they certainly didn’t feel they were in control of what eventually caused them to no longer be touring or releasing and marketing their albums here.

@@hello-vs4dc i don´t think its about living i the USA but making pop music for the USA. They don´t remember Take On Me fame with much happiness so they started to change

@@Zeitics *Who* doesn’t remember the “Take On Me” days of a-ha’s fame well? If you are referring to the members of a-ha as not remembering that time period very fondly (about which I think you’re half correct … as they seem to feel quite confused about that period of time - loving and being very grateful for parts of it, while resenting or even hating other parts), then the obvious question becomes: So why would the rest of the world - other than the US - love everything that a-ha has released after “Scoundrel Days”? My response to that question is still the same, i.e., that the ONLY reason the US doesn’t love everything else a-ha has released is because they simply aren’t aware it exists in the first place!!! I sincerely believe that if the later albums had been released in America, US fans would have been just as supportive as fans anywhere else were, and I believe that would be true right now, too, if a-ha decides to release True North (or any of its albums which were previously unreleased in America) here. I’m actually wondering if they might be planning to release True North here because the film is going to be showing in at least one theater near me … But if they do actually release “True North” here, I very much hope they do a *proper* job of marketing it in the US, and that if they tour “the US,” they remember there are MANY more cities in America with a significant number of a-ha fans living there than just NYC and LA - many of whom, like me, have managed to buy every album a-ha ever released, thanks to the Internet.
