For the longest time, archaeology was primarily focused on the Middle East because of it's relationship with the Bible. It's great that it finally branched out and equally fascinating civilizations were discovered around the globe.

My best friend at college and she is still a friend was from Peru . Magda Molina Montoya told me much about Peru. This gave me a interest in Latin America and her people . I must have been a Latin American in a past life. Lol. This is an interesting exhibition and I would love to visit it . The documentary is very interesting . Thank you.

Oh wow! Through television documentaries, discovery channel, national geographic and such i have gained some little knowledge of Peru and the Andes through snippet like information. This wonderful exhibition all weaves it together through time, geography and culture. For the first time a complete picture emerges: "these are the andes". To me the cultures that emerge from both TV snippets and this youtube view on the exhibition always seems so different from what we know in Europe in the way of building, art and imaging. At the same, especially through your presentation, a big commonality becomes apparent. In spite of the differences it is very obvious that in the core there are so many simularities: the struggle of life, religious aspects, entertainment etc. Obviously I'm very impressed and thank you so much!

This is an amazing and breathtaking introduction to this art. More videos suchlike these should be made, in incisive detail if possible. These different art forms instil and reinforce the belief that art has no bounds, you can always go on to make a variety of arts. Happy to be inspired, again.

Wish I could come see this but I can't justify travelling at the moment. Hopefully one day I'll be able to visit Peru and maybe meet some of the master weavers who've made the amazing textiles I bought from the CTTC.

Question: is there a practical purpose for the stirrup design of the ceramic vessels?

Even though a walk through the exhibit in a controlled environment would be much to most peoples taste, I would much rather travel to the area's from which this collection flows from. It would be worth the inherent risk to become a part of the landscape responsible for the works your displaying here. Its commonly known that many nations in South America can be dangerous to travel to or through, but it is the wellspring of, and the birthplace of their heritage. Thanks.

Well, Perú is not just its gastronomy and archeologycal complexs. It is more than anyone can imagine but we are doomed to live in misery because of corruption and greed of the elite that manipulate press and media. I hope that some day, maybe some day, Perú can represent tech developments and innovation to have a decent living for almost every citizen from my lovely country.

Interesting in regards to DNA as well thank you for this sharing of this historical account s with the invasion of Spanish acquisitions of these native south American people s in their native lands in Peru. As they are math mathematics in their culture by using rope string counting of people and events with their records. Amazing! Not so primative as Spanish perceived. They were living in peace with the land . Culture with ceramic vessel s with high quality of development and skilled and use of land to develop crops with weather conditions where others seem unlivable. Yet here are these people living with the land. And fishermen with reed hand made boats to get fished for food. Weaves with the birds of the sky! Such as the hummingbird Bird and eagles. And fishes and whales they would see. They dressed colorfully and warmly with cold temperatures and ate veggies from their farms. So definitely knowledge of agricultural survival. For the veggies as well. So interesting. With respect I admire these ancestors as well. Thank you ancestors! You are not forgotten. We love you as well. Thank you for sharing this beautiful video. Brings such peace and love of family. I hope this can be examples for others to live in Peace as well.

Does the British museum have permission from Peru then to house these artifacts temporarily? This isn't always the case so I wanted to make sure before planning on coming in. Thanks

peru and all of south america have such amazing cultures and empires is so good that the british museum is taking a step towards decolonization and collaboration with us instead of just stealing our stuff :) next step is restitution!!!

When you speak of 'human sacrifice' I think we forget how many humans were sacrificed in our so called 'sophisticated civilization'by the Christian Churches because of their 'heresies' particularly around Astronomy. GALILEO was kept under house arrest for HERESY and only forgiven in 1992 by the Catholic Church. Joan of Arc???

It's impossible to view much of this work without coming to the (at least tentative) conclusion that psychoactive substances played a key role in the lives of these people. Also, it would be a real shame if the British Museum didn't include some of the amazing Moche pornographic pottery in this exhibition. Not only is it fantastically crafted and detailed, it provides conclusive evidence that people are people at their core, both across time and all over the world.

The rooms are TOO MODEST. They do not do justice to the splendor of the Andes and the importance of the Incas. LOL from São Paulo, Brazil.

What gets me is how poorly this is stated about the culture they are looking at. Intellectual poverty of explanation is surprising given they own all these artifacts. Obviously their staff can’t have the right resources to understand what they are looking at and the travesty of explanation offered is ludicrous.

This is Curators Corner. Not Head of the Departments Corner. He comes across as nowhere as informed as the Curator. Instead of facts, we get, "I love how this.... etc etc" comments through the whole of his parts of the video. Smacks of a Boss pushing his way into someone else's field for bit of glory! How fucking Colonial!

All these "British" resources should be removed from London in the south of England and placed somewhere more central like Manchester. The further away you are from London, the less likely you are to ever be able to access them.

It felt disrespectful to hear that man butcher such sacred and important names; it would've been good to be left for the actual curator to pronounce them or it would've been even better if the guy showed a bit of interest and learnt how to correctly pronounce Tahuantinsuyo, Andes and so. Not to mention that when the explanation was given by him key names were omitted, like the name of the "reed boats" which the reed's name is totora and the boats are called caballito de totora. Important facts omitted for the sake of this foreigner's pronunciation's sake, disrespectful and distasteful. Also I hope the artifacts that were kept in the museum's basement are returned to my country as those artifacts do not belong in a museum in a foreign country, they belong in our museums for our people to study and see to learn about our own history, and for the foreigners to visit in the original soil -a Peruvian.
