I love people when they don't understand Hunter X Hunter, HxH is so complicated many fans fails to appreciate the characters and story and ends up disliking which is heartbreaking. Today's people only care about insane Animations fightings and huge boobies. Anyways Go check out the vid - "Morality of Gon Freecs" it will change your perspective for sure pls watch it full. Gon is highly underrated in terms of an Mc. HxH despite its popularity is itself underrated because people fails to understand the anime

I watched the 99 anime after I saw all of the 2011 one. I think the new one was made thinking most of the viewers had already seen the 99 one, so they were in a bit of a hurry to get to the content that hadn't been animated yet. They cut a couple other things out of the first arc. Kind of a tangent but I also think they made Leorio a lot campier right off the bat in the remake

Yep. It's why I like the original better because the characters were expanded upon. The music and some of the animations were also better than the new one, IMO.

When the Hunter Exam finally ended, it actually felt like a freaking journey. There's an air of melancholy when they finally say goodbye to each other (albeit temporary). You can feel like they went through a lot (because they actually do lol). Because of the added character developments for most of the cast, you are actually emotionally invested in each of their own journey. One of the reasons also that the 1999 version feel intimate is because of its great use of atmosphere, not only of color, but the soundtrack as well. You will always feel emotional whenever the harmonica rendition of the opening started to play. And it has been a standout among the soundtracks as well.

It's not about Kite, it's about his relationship with Gon. And by not establishing that relationship in 2011 anime, it didn't make sense why Gon lost his mind and literally sacrificed himself just to avenge him. Being "cool as fuck" isn't reason enough to give up your life for someone you've just met. It was like, 'How dare you kill that person I've met last week, that supposedly met me when I was a baby! grrrr'. It felt extremely forced, and I thought they did the whole arc, just for the "cool anime rage" moment and an unnecessary drama. But now that I know that Kite was a similar figure to Gon as Shanks is to Luffy, it makes sense why Gon's reaction was so extreme. So, it was absolutely necessary to mention that.

@Phantomonum Bro, I'm saying that there was no reason for me to mention that Kite is my favorite character. It obviously it's necessary to know the relationship between Kite and Gon to have the full context on why Gon went apeshit.

That's what I did, the only problem is that I never quite get used to the new voices, Gon and Hisoka's voice actors in the 99 version were perfect for the characters (which easily can be just unconscious bias on my part); but I am glad I did that because the Yorknew Arc of the 99 version is one my favorite arcs of every anime I have seen, it just wouldn't had been the same without that beautiful animation.

What we get is a flashback of the scene right as Kite was introduced not a scene that should have happened in episode 1. I don't think you guys who haven't read the manga really understand how big of a difference it is for him to be one of the first characters in the story verses only learning about him when he shows up. Kite is the reason Gon knows what hunters are and wants to go on his journey. He is a character that Gon and the reader have been waiting to meet since chapter 1, I also think he's mentioned like once per arc as a little reminder not to forget about him. And now this character just dies right as we meet them again. That is going to create a much stronger audience reaction. If a new character just dies soon after their introduction the audience isn't going to care nearly as much as a character that they have been anticipating for the entire series.

yeah, the point is it would have been more impactful story flow wise if they sticked to making that scene the first episode, well, thats what i see people complain about anyway

You thinking it was shallow really hammers home how important Kite being at the beginning of the story actually is verses only learning about him when he is introduced. Yes Gon's reaction is one of many instances that show his hypocrisy but thinking his reaction was shallow is insane and shows you never read the manga. Because in the manga Kite is a character that is introduced to the reader in chapter 1 and is mentioned a few more times as the arcs progress. Kite is someone that you as a reader should be waiting for and when he is introduced after Greed Island the audience is excited to finally see this long awaited character again and then that character abruptly dies. Contrast this with the anime in which a newly introduced character abruptly dies, the audience doesn't care as much. In the manga you agree with Gon's reaction because you've been waiting to meet Kite as long as Gon has but in the anime the audience doesn't care because we're only told to care through a flashback instead of having anticipation build naturally.

@@marshmellowmoon7990 I can only recommend the plague of gripes video. He's much better with words than I. I feel the '11 anime better got across the themes of the show rather than coming off as a typical shounen with the way they introduced Kite.

It was the first loss of a child who has a black and white view of the world. Not only that, it was the first person he connected with as a father figure and basically gave him a purpose in life. Gon looked up to Kite, not just because he gave him a goal but because he also accomplished that impossible goal. It makes perfect sense why a character like Gon would lose his mind after Kite’s “death”. It basically shattered his belief of an invincible man who accomplished the impossible task of catching Ging to suddenly lose and die to someone. Gon saying “Kite is fine, he won’t lose to that thing” is a perfect indication on how he viewed him.

No it doesn't. It's the same scene but in the anime it's in flashback form. Gon met a dude years ago and went crazy after he died.
