"A Hunt in the Black Forest" - New Light Symphony Orchestra

The "effects" (ie: birds twittering, a blacksmith's forge, galloping horses, barking dogs, etc.) in this early electric recording of George Voelker Jr.'s "A Hunt in the Black Forest " (circa late 1920s) have been known to reduce some listeners to hysterics!

Oh my that is a coincident... I lived on Jones Hollow Rd.. sort of on the corner of Jones Hollow Rd @ what is now Lake Rd... I am aztrouble_@msn.com..and live out west... would welcome messages about our favorite Bob Steele.. my favorite was when he state the schools in Marlborough were closed.... alas, my sisters and I was indentured servants of my father and couldn't play until the driveway was cleared...

My grandparents had this record but sadly I broke it in around 1984 when I was 4! I am pleased to hear what the tune finally sounds like.

I listened to this recording as a little girl and I believe that it began my love for classical music. This was on a 78 in the 40's, also an RCA Victor. On the other side was, "I a Clock Shop."

This is a faithful remake of the old Victory 12" disk I have of this piece. The flip side is the descriptive fantasia "In a clock store"

That was it: "The G. Fox Morning Watch," with Bob Steele. It seems he had a better recording of it than this one from the 1920s. He also played a march that was much less laughable.

Near the end, it sounds more than a recording of a hunt than music.

I agree. This song was written for children, I expect. Ironically, the version I came to love as a kid would have been much more pleasing to adults. I cannot find it anywhere, though. It was in a 4 record set released by Reader's Digest about 55 years ago. To the best of my recollection, it was called The Wonderful World of Music for Young People.

Does anyone know of the Reader's Digest version "The Wonderful World of Music for Children" Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra - James Walker conductor.

It was also in a Reader's Digest 10-LP set entitled "Music for You." There the orchestra was correctly named as the Royal Philharmonic and from it I uploaded here another number made famous on old 78s, "In a Clock Store," in which they really go to town on the clocks ... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l8iSpc-Tt8vVp6M.html

Thank-you adam28xx yes, I have the Reader's Digest one, it is a 6 LP set, it also had this music, however slightly different, not as many dogs, gun shots at the end and the cheer going up at the end was a little different. It also had Peter and the Wolf narrated by Walter Hiterman and the Sorcerers apprentice narrated by Jim Backus. I cannot find it anywhere. I physically have it on LP but, LOL, I haven't got a record player. Actually, I have got it on tap, so I might be able to transfer it that way. Anyway. Thank-you again.

Yes, this version of the clock store was on the 6 LP set that I had. :-)
