Could be! I mean, I've switched to a fully improvised video format, and prefer watching content that's delivered increasingly live these days. it just feels more human to me than hyper editing everything all the time. That said, it's still somewhat niche to do so, and some of the heavy handed editing tricks of the trade are employed because they work. But I'm hopeful that the norms of today will lead to a more intimate and genuinely connected future. I see that in my preferred sport of jiu jitsu. It's about as close contact and real time as you can get with other human beings outside of a jam session! I think it's part of the attraction for a lot of people. A bit of an antidote to artificial, atomized modern times. Live music is a lot like that, when done well. Thanks for the comment, -Justin

I agree, just started using it in April and find it has utility and versatility in mixing a song in a way you couldn't a few years ago. Using it to enhance your own vocal for background harmonies instead of stacking or trying to teach another singer how you want it. I also write songs that aren't meant for my voice, so I can use this to get it to sound similar to what I want in order to find the ideal singer more effectively. And getting some instruments in the track that you can't play but will now work with a hum or a guitar line is cool, can possibly find some inventive sounds, too. I'm not on board with out and out creating a complete song using AI, just telling it your lyrics or a title only and having it write something, maybe a lyricist that can't play instruments can do that.

I went down this Rabbit Hole a few years back when I was checking out Lyrebird. I began leaning toward VOCALOID. This looks like another alternative worthy of checking out. I have my reasons for checking this out. None of which are meant to replace Human talent, rather better communicate my ideas to achieve the finished product! 😉

Synthesizer V right in the DAW, man. The newer voice packs have a dozen curves to sculpt the performance - breathiness, power, falsetto, etc... separate aspiration tracks. For composer-producers with piano roll skills I think the results blow everything else away.

I thought of the song Afternoon Delite when you said this can be used to do multiple background vocals in different timbres, and then The Eagles ect. This sounds very cool to me. I'm not a very good singer but this could help me translate some of my songs to the people I know who are. I write & record a lot of stuff but it usually has no vocals. I'll check this out. I think this might help me get some ideas across a lot better. Cheers Y/All.

Hey Thanx Justin. I only have a home studio. But there's sooo much you can do now. I appreciate the work you do for people like me. My studio is more like a museum now. 2 track ,4track, 8 track, DAT 8 track Blackface, but I upgraded to Pro Tools 10 in 2013 I think & love all the gear. I've been getting emails from you for quite awhile & wish you the best with your channel. Cheers Man.

I own and use Synthesizer V for my vocalist needs (all original songs). I probably will never use AI vocalists in my own songs, for this reason (or reasons): If I use a famous dead celebrity's voice in my original song, the copyright and legal complications aside, anyone who hears my song will associate it with that celebrity. My ego will not allow that - a dead singer getting all my press for my original music. lol I may experiment with Ian Curtis (if I can find one) or Bob Marley for grins and giggles, but I don't think I'll ever put anything of mine out with those voices.
@SonicScoop

Yes, I agree that celebrity voices are a niche that is not appealing to most serious musicians working outside of parody. This is not that though. The Audimee voices are not celebrity voices, and you can create your own as well. The extensive, we’ll-curated library of royalty free non-celebrity voices is one of its biggest advantages over other similar tools. -Justin

Correct, that is the way it is according to Audimee! They are all royalty free voices owned by Audimee. I didn’t ask them about their creation process in detail, but these are not meant to be, or marketed as, models based on any known or famous singers. To me, that is part of the appeal. -Justin

@SonicScoop
@SonicScoop 2 ай бұрын
Humanity has confronted and overcome greater crises than this. As for “innocence” are you suggesting that the people creating these technologies have malicious intent and just want to see the works burn? Or that AI itself is already intrinsically “guilty” of some crime by existing? If you mean that it’s potentially dangerous, then I agree. But that’s different than the question of guilt vs innocence. Even the innocent can be dangerous. -Justin

Some people make the mistake like they did for things like NFTs of assuming that some things are here to stay or inevitable even if they represent a regression or a downgrade for most people while allowing a tiny minority to profit from it . Technologies like that when used for other things than music : potentially flawless deepfakes for example are a literal threat to our democracies . AI isn't something like drum machines that scared drummers , it will disrupt a lot of things in a lot of fields over the course of a very small period of time and I don't see a transition being easy or even peaceful .
@SonicScoop
@SonicScoop 2 ай бұрын
There are potential dangerous to these the technologies for sure. But there’s also no putting the genie back in the bottle. We’re going to have to figure out how to live in a world with these things in it, just like we had to figure out to live in a world after nuclear fission was made practical. I’m not sure that any technology is “inevitable”, because human beings might not last long enough to discover it. But once a technology is known, expecting it to “go away”, short of it civilizational collapse (or it being replaced by something even more powerful) is very unlikely. But in either of those cases, we have even bigger problems on our hands! :-) “Here to stay” is definitely accurate. “How useful is it?” and “How can it be used responsibly?” are an appropriate set of questions from there. -Justin

@@SonicScoop I think that expecting humans to adapt quickly to so many changes is the biggest risk for a civilization collapse . Many scenarios of high tech / low life have been explored by Sci Fi . in the 1960's Frank Herbert wrote in Dune : "once, men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them. In that story " machines " and " men with machines " go away in a very interesting fashion . How useful is it ? it will make a very large % of the population useless and without hope of success or a better life surviving with something like UBI paired with a social credit score system . Fooling people into believing that they could " succeed " if they embraced that technology will not last very long . AI " tools " are already irrelevant because AI is now a way to generate full pieces of music without the need of wasting time using any tool . We are going to see millions of generated songs being published every and everybody will be lost in the noise . After the " you will own nothing and be happy about it " we are already seeing deconstructions like : " just make music for yourself and for your own enjoyment , you don't need to share it with others in order to be happy " Thinking that most people are going to accept things like that is a mistake that gives me hope .

AI music will never ever even closely resemble the mixture of character and identity, vision, emotion, passion, growth and evolution, work and training, context and timeframe that has lead to the great pieces of music of humanity. From Bach tot The Prodigy and everything in between and around. AI absolutely pales in comparison. Crumbles to dust. Don't mistake music industry with real music. Sadly, somewhere in the 90's those 2 have diverged. ABBA made global smash hits, and it is incredibly good, rich, well written, skillfully performed and recorded music. Good, honest music still exists and still is viable and will always be. Don't worry

Not depressing at all. Sounds very bad and very plain and totally lifeless. This stuff will only grow appreciation for real skills and talent and devotion. AI is only usable for people who see music solely as a sellable product who want to sound like the next top 40 commercially successful pop hit that was shoved up you A by the mega industry. AI is not hurting real music, not hurting real musicians and real music passionates. Fear not. Music is so and so much more than some stupid AI generated boring pop vocal and streams on spotify.

Funny how whenever I try to find an AI singer, computer says no. I don't seen want a famous voice. I just wanna specify the key, specify the bpm and specify the relevant chords and notes. Until then, it's still science fiction and YT Content creators clickbaiting. Notice when he says "here is the sax" and nothing comes out.

I can't really think of anything more boring than AI vocals, or AI music in general. I think creators are immensely overhyping AI music in general for KZfaq fame. In fact you might even be paid by Audimee, Justin. I just can not see the point, and I've never ever thought any AI generated music sounds interesting. And I have done research and have heard a lot of it. It can in the best case lead to something kind of credible that doesn't immediately fall on its face (compared to other commercial pop music that is!), or you can achieve some nice gimmicks with it like Cash doing Barbie girl, yea. Or for anyone with trained ears and good monitors: a painfully bad and ridiculous synthetization of Johnny Cash's beloved voice. Anyone believing in this kind of AI music stuff is one that sees music as a product. A product you can make to have it streamed and sold for money. I have typed the same kind of idea under maybe hundreds of youtube video's about AI: commercially successful music, hit music, radio music, top spotify streams... have been AI generated for the past 25 or so years. Not literally, but it has been done by humans working exactly like an AI. The next iteration of the same idea. The same sound, the same kind of hook, the same sort of melodies and harmonies. It has been a formula since the late 90's and is only become more so. The next snack that the industry moguls can shove up your @ss. Oh yes, AI is perfectly capable of that. I see music very differently. For me, the commercial aspect of music comes after all of the rest. I see music as energy and communication. As an extension of thought, as a way to evoke the wordless. Another language. A sample of the time and context it was created in in combination with the world in the head of the creator. A tough of magic in the real world. Music lives through character, identity, risk, growth, inspiration, improvisation, flow, focus, love, hate, distress, joy... Music is the polar opposite of computer thinking. If I think of all the music of the past 500 years (from vocal renaissance by J. Arcadelt all the way up to nowadays' good stuff), I can't help but see how idiot and meager and flat and lifeless AI generated music sounds. BOY is AI vocals and AI music far away from inspiration, character and all that sort of stuff. And that has nothing to do with it still being a young technology, that is the essence of how AI works. Go pick up an instrument, start singing, learn theory and go make music with your friends, you bunch of halfwitted morons. You do not understand what music is
@SonicScoop

I’m not interested in AI generated music either. This is not exactly that however. This AI assisted tonal reshaping of human performances. What do you mean by “Might even be paid by”? I *specifically* thank Audimee for supporting the channel in the video, in the description, in the comments, and put a “contains paid promotion” stamp on the video. Most channels don’t do that around sponsored content, even though they are supposed to. I always make a point to do so. When I do sponsored livestreams, I basically take a request from a brand to study their tools and help make the case for what they are trying to achieve, while also bringing up caveats and concerns that I and the audience can think of. I literally brought up some of the same exact reservations about AI that you did, in this very video. I even read live chats that were critical aloud during the live stream. And I let all of the critical comments remain as long as they are not vulgar. Most KZfaq channels don’t do that. I believe you are talking to one of the good guys on this front. My conscience is clear! And yes I do sponsored content. As long as I can do it with a clear conscience :-) If you can name anything unethical specifically, I’m happy to hear that critique. But I have not seen that. In any event, thanks for sharing your take on the other items. It’s there for anyone to read! -Justin

Lets see another spectrums . POV Ordinary peoples who want generating music exactly like they wanted in their own laptops or devices playlist . They didn't want to be musician by any standard. They also didn`t want to hear artist A, B, C, D, E ,F ,G etc or going into Streaming platform only because some Audio dan Music pro dudes telling the world that those artist was great and they should listening to those music . For most people, Art is about form of story telling and personal experiences . All technical aspects could be used to enhance the experiences but not the main things . Its right in some degree but not overall in any spectrum of arts . So whatever definitions music based on someone POV didn`t automatically applied to other peoples . We`re too technical when talking about something personal and abstract like arts ? AI though not perfect, undeniable showing success bridging the gap in for ordinary peoples. What if they`ve used for learning tools ? What if they simply just like lifeless type of music ? They didn`t deserve to exist ? The problem with these mindset is those people almost 60-70% of human populations . Lets them enjoying what they`re like the most , just like us, who enjoying and appreciating any technical creations or " FLOW" like you`ve mentioned above .

I brought up the fact that there could be potential legal and copyright implications to resampling others’ recorded works in this way. That is not the way I recommend using these tools, and those are not the use cases I explore in this video. I specifically bring up qualms and concerns with that use case in the video. You could, however, use these tools in either originals or covers in ways that would both be legal and ethical. -Justin
