I respect her for not answering the CC question, because her honest answer just wouldn't look great...it'd be misunderstood & seen as envy or at least resentment. But she has stated, very clearly, that the CC buzz is about her being white, & she's not a fan of it. In her experience/eyes, black women simply do not get the interest that white women get. I'm not sure how objectively true that is, & I think it's a mistake to point to the CC craze as proof positive, because CC isn't just some really good white player. She just finished up the greatest ever collegiate career on what amounts to a mid-major program, with an utterly sui generis playing style for a woman that has captivated many millions of fans. No one, ever, has played like she plays, period. If everything else were the same, but her melanin count, would she be just as popular? I think the answer may very well be yes, & even I need to talk myself into that a bit. But, you look at other athletes who've captured America like this...Tiger, MJ, Lebron, Bird, Magic, etc...and it's easier to believe. What I do believe is that A'Ja will go down as a top-3 WNBA player of all time, & she's just built for this...she's so funny, so damn smart & wise, & fine as hell. She's got it all, including very good reasons to feel the way she feels about the CC fandom.

Game 4 of the 2023 WNBA Finals between the Las Vegas Aces and N.Y. Liberty averaged 889,000 viewers, which is the most-watched WNBA Games 4 Finals on record, and up 124% from Game 4 in 2022. 2023 WNBA Finals nets highest TV viewership in 20 years on ESPN Each game averaged 728k viewers and audiences increased by 36% on last year's finals. WNBA 2023 Season Delivers with Record-Breaking Viewership, Attendance and Digital Engagement y’all keep solely wanting to accredit the increase of the W to a sole player, to a sole rookie class….the stats from just last season don’t even prove this nonsense.

the WNBA was absolutely growing, but slowly. CC/Reese really accelerated the process. The numbers dont lie. What they brought to the league put it ahead 5yrs
@Qu33n
@Qu33n 25 күн бұрын
@@MetalRob81 You are correct. Progressively growing. That’s what they aren’t saying. This exponential ‘24 growth isn’t instant and the narrative surrounding the rookie class makes it seem as though they are the sole reason. That isn’t true. Growth doesn’t happen instantly. Nor does it take place in a vacuum, for anything and it wasn’t an instantaneous occurrence for the W. Reese and Clark are factors that have factored in the league’s already growing status. Their synergy certainly has supported what was already stirring for the increase we see today. Along with all the rookies of this season. The rookie class, with both Reese and Clark, helped to expedite what was already in the making. Nothing is an overnight success. Rome wasn’t built in a day. That’s why we use those phrases.

I agree with her sidestepping the question, but CC very much does matter to her, like it or not...& she does not. Because of CC, A'Ja will retire with a much more money than she otherwise would have, & even younger players will benefit even more. I get resenting that a white woman is bringing all the eyes/money, but it's just not that simple. CC has captivated America with her uniquely entertaining playing style & talent/skill...the buzz is not only, or even mostly, about her skin color. I've followed the WNBA since its inception, & there has never been a player like her...I think that's the why, not her melanin count.

She just blatantly lied, saying that she doesn't pay attention to social media on Caitlin Clark. Wilson in her own words said that Caitlin Clark is getting more attention because she's white then a black athlete would. She said "I think it's a huge thing" she also said "to other people it may not be black or white but to me it is". Aja Wilson said those very words, so why didn't you correct her n bring that up, I guess ya just let your guest come on there n lie lie lie n not be called out on it. Ya must hate Clark too.

I have a hard time with this sentiment...that if you haven't been an avid WNBA watcher for years, you just cannot understand the nuances of the game. That just isn't true...a knowledgeable NBA fan can easily get caught up on the W in a very short time period. This is not theoretical physics here, it's freaking basketball.

First of all, why the hell are the Fever playing so many more games than the rest of the league? If it's to get more people to watch the WNBA, it's sorta backfiring. If you had the Kansas City Chiefs scheduled to play on Sunday and then again on Thursday Night and again on Monday Night and then on Thursday Night and then on Sunday - you might have a lot of people tuning in to see Taylor Swift, but Mahomes would be beaten up and Coach Reid wouldn't have time to put in his offense between games and the Chiefs would start to lose every game. Especially if the rest of the league was playing a regular schedule. Now compound that and make that ridiculous schedule for the Bears and Caleb Williams in September. Then say, wow - that USC Heisman winner was over-rated. The Bears suck. Coach should be fired. How stupid is the WNBA. The schedule has done a dis-service to Caitlyn Clark and Coach Sides and really to the entire league.

Good answer on Clark. Should have led with that at the start of the season. Looks like players like Wilson are starting to realize complaining about Clark just puts the focus on her. Wilson deserves to have her own focus. She is the best player in the league right now. Keep this MJ-like media approach going ladies!

This kind of comment doesn't help Caitlin. Of course there are people who know who the best player in the WNBA is. Caitlin has brought in more people but there is a core fan base for the W and they know who she is, her stats, her history, her status in women's basketball. These kind of comments make people dislike Caitlin through no fault of Caitlin as she only comments on basketball, not noise.
