This is a fun night. You can use to adjust tension without cinching down on your anchor point. Michale from Canada asked about it so that he could pull spiral branches around a tree. He did have some criteria though. He wanted to not that didn’t cinch down, that could be adjusted, and that could also be tied from the top of a ladder from an awkward position.

How did I not see this until now!! Thank you so much for the detailed instruction. Just what I'm looking for. You are a wizard with a piece of rope.

I played a bit with this and the difference between this and the taut line hitch is this one grips the working end while the taut line grips the standing end to get friction.

Been watching your channel for about a year know. Between you and The Bear Essentials I would've never known even close to a fraction of the knowledge I have now when it specifically comes to knots. You've helped me out so much by making these videos, thank you so much for doing what you do.

Seems like a tautline hitch would work the same

Because it’s under tension from the beginning, the Midshipman’s Hitch would be perfect.

This knot and the tautline hitch are the best for this but you can't beat one-handed tying friction hitches LOL

Doesn't this have the same function of a taut line hitch?

Was thinking the same. Except for being able to do it with one hand?

The taut-line hitch serves the same function, for keeping tension; however, this knot gives more tension when bringing the knot closer to the hitch point, whereas the taut-line gives more tension when sliding the knot away from the hitch point. This knot seems similar to a slip knot, but it, well, doesn't slip--- keeping tension.

For a pine tree that grows low and into a parking space I lift them up. I use bankline and the “adjustable grip hitch”. Super easy to tie adjust and have flexibility.

Maybe an interesting related challenge: how would you get an end-fed half-wave antenna (essentially just a wire for this discussion) into a tree, secure it, and then subsequently get it down? -Tim

Apparently I’m not the only ham radio operator who loves this channel and learning knots lol. This channel is perfect for it btw.

Tie one end of a small diameter line (string) to the antenna. Tie the other end to a drone. Fly the drone as high as you want, over a branch and back down. Pull the antenna up.

Can this be used as a Ridgeline for a bushcraft tarp? If so, how would you do that?

A tautline would work, but I think he used this because you might be able to attach it with 1 hand on top of a ladder(if the branch is stiff enough).

@@darylwhite7881 I've been trying to find a battle ready speed Ridgeline that will also hold it's tension so I don't have to and get an ultra tight line

@@bn5055 If you dont need ultra Light thats a good and easy way. I Double my Line and Feed one of it evry Inch trow the middle of the other Line Till i reach the end. Then both ends get a Figur 8 knot or Diamond... First Side around the tree and Push the figur8 trow a Loop on the Line. The other Side goes a round the tree and then all of the left over cord goes trow a Loop. Then back torwads the tree to pull tension, now push the figure8 in a Close by Loop to hold the tension Greatz from Germany and have a nice Day opo

Seems complicated. Tie an adjustable grip hitch, taut line hitch, even a trucker's hitch (put the "pulley" on the standing end, run the working end around the branch, through the pulley). Any of these would be as quick or quicker to tie. I know you know this. So, what's the advantage of this knot?
@dittyjamz
@dittyjamz Ай бұрын
Taut line / grip hitch doesn't meet the requirements. He didn't want the knot to slide up. The trucker's hitch would get you closer, but I guess it's more of a knot configuration than a knot.

sure, but why not instead just learn to tie the half sheepshank truckers' hitch in every orientation? #2126

Tying it with 1 hand while standing on a ladder, if necessary. You know...cause every MAN holds onto the ladder with 1 hand at all times. 😂

Gender shaming and toxic masculinity, seriously? What is this 1992? You can't make the tiny leap of imagination required to realize he might be working with his other hand, too? Or perhaps that he needs to reach a distance away from the ladder to grasp the branches to be tied, and so does require a hand to keep him from falling. Pinhead throwback.
