I think this should kick of a discussion of if kbeauty makeup brands want to enjoy the financial benefits of becoming more global, they need to also take on the responsibility of having inclusive shade ranges for complexion products. If we get on US brands for not being inclusive while making billions, we need to keep the same energy for k beauty brands. I realize Korea is no where near as diverse as america so the darker shades wouldn’t sell anywhere near as much in Korea. But again, if you want to be able to benefit from the sales that are made in countries with a larger population of darker skin people. You need to take the profit from those sales to expand shade ranges, and include the darker skinned people in complexion products. Just my opinion. Sending a brown skinned influencer products for essentially free promotion, and not reciprocating that energy by simply including them in complexion product is actually insane.

To people who say there's no inclusivity, it's because in Korea, the beauty standard is pale, and to be considered pretty, you must be pale. My mom isn't pale at all. She's a tan shade, but it's still difficult to find her shade. I have friends who paint any expose skin a white with foundation to match the korean beauty. I think this company wants to expand out, but doesn't have enough attraction to do so. Thus, they are sending PR packages to influencers to get their name out. There is no reason to use money to make foundations that may not even be a big hit in the West.

But also, there aren’t African American dark shades for KOREANS. Yes, there are some mixed race people now but as a business, not enough to venture into yet. They’re only just expanding to a global market in recent times (as In the lat 5 or so years). Give them time. It’s a business, not a social service. They’re only going to invest if they know there is a market - and when you’re marketing internationally, there is already a lot of competition so these decisions can’t be made lightly.

All these people cussing out a Korean brand for not having shades that have no demand in the Korean domestic market. It’s a business, so their business needs will always come before small market client needs. Furthermore, to those arguing that they’re trying to reach the international market, yeah, you still don’t have a good argument because they are really only starting out still, competing in a much bigger market when dealing with the international one than a domestic one. Which means their product manufacturing decisions have to be made carefully. It would be smart to market products that work for all skin tones such as their colour makeup and see if there’s a demand that’s worth pursuing. It would be the dumbest move to put time and money into creating something completely new only to have it fail. It’s not like they can then sell dark shades to Koreans if it failed overseas. So once they establish that yes, a substantial international demand is there, they may then branch into investing in a wider ranger of base products to suit lots of skin tones. But that decision doesn’t just happen overnight or even in 2-3 years for that matter. The more you bitch about a smart and obvious business decision that you’re clearly too naive or dumb to think about, the more the brand is likely to distance themselves from giving you what you want. It’s not racism, it’s a business. Clio (or any other Korean brand for that matter), have never declared that they’re going to ostracise darker skin tones - now THAT would be racism. So sit back down and if you genuinely want a product, make the brand want to market to you by showing demand.

for anyone wondering as to why most Korean businesses don’t have darker shades it’s for 2 main reasons. 1. the beauty standard is to be pale, close to paper white. 2. since there are hardly any black people in Korea, making darker shades wouldn’t make them profit. they’d just sit on shelves waiting for hardly anyone. they’d waste money. “they can just make an online store” but Korean businesses target audience are national. not international. Most Korean businesses leave the darker shades to the international market that get put into drug stores and stuff, simply because they have their own target audience, and well, it’d be a loss if they expanded at the point where they’re at.

Why do people always police brands who don’t have black shades? Like it’s a Korean brand whose focus market is Korea. It’s rare for koreans to have that skin color so ofc they wouldn’t make that shade. Why some people making this a racism issue when most Asians don’t really care about your race

I mean, they took it out, they didn't make it more inclusive. It's acknowledgement, which is...nice? But not really a win or a good deed or anything. 😕
@Ashley-cr4ow
@Ashley-cr4ow Жыл бұрын
Why do they need to be inclusive when over 99% of korea is Koreans. You’re reaching way too high on this
@Iwasonceanonionwithnolayers
@Iwasonceanonionwithnolayers Жыл бұрын
@@Ashley-cr4ow I didn't say they needed to be inclusive. I said they weren't. Therefore it's not a win and they didn't do a good deed. This in response to the unwarranted thank you. Btw, your percentages are off and CLEARLY Koreans aren't the only people they want to purchase their products. Or why are they sending PR packages to anyone outside of Korea? Seems like you were attempting to turn this into a soapbox moment but I'm really not the one. Being anti-inclusion is certainly a stance...I guess...but be it elsewhere.
@Ashley-cr4ow
@Ashley-cr4ow Жыл бұрын
@@Iwasonceanonionwithnolayers who knows maybe they are looking to expand that’s why they are sending black creators these packages. Making a foundation that most likely won’t sell much is a sure fire way to go bankrupt. We’re looking at percentages here. The amount of money a mostly sold in korea brand would lose by selling these shade ranges is hard to wrap your head around I guess

On one hand its sad they didn't have anything for you. On the other hand I'm happy that they recognized it and tried to just give you something you could use for now instead and thus could still appreciate it. Hopefully when they do come out with a shade for you they send it over!!
