Oh wow. Basically a decade after first listening to this song, I finally realize that lyrics are talking about how the human eye really works, how the signals we get are the wrong side up because of how light is received and reflected, and the brain corrects it so that we see things right side up. And the spectrum "a to z" refers to how everything on the electromagnetic spectrum is light and we are constantly bombarded by it, but there's only a tiny portion of it that we can see as visible light, visible light comprises the only colors we know. This is science, this is fact not fiction which is why it's so inspiring

I’m riding the S-Bahn with my girlfriends, having all just smoked cigarettes from a pack that one of them stole. Benjamin Gibbard is so far and away the best lyricist ever it's like Michael Jordan. Every single one of his songs is written with depth and creativity. It's seriously amazing how underrated what he has done is
