Disney and Pixar’s “Turning Red” introduces Mei Lee (voice of Rosalie Chiang), a confident, dorky 13-year-old torn between staying her mother’s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence. Her protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming (voice of Sandra Oh), is never far from her daughter-an unfortunate reality for the teenager. And as if changes to her interests, relationshipsand body weren’t enough, whenever she gets too excited (which is practically ALWAYS), she “poofs” into a giant red panda! What I didn't get in the ending is, why did they all still give up their panda? They saw they can control it in the end.

I don't think it had anything to do with control or lack thereof, it was more to do about keeping the panda a secret. Imagine just becoming a teenager like Mei, and you suddenly get told, "Yeah, the females in our family turn into red pandas once we hit puberty.". That's not exactly normal, so if you were to transform in front of your friends or strangers, they would obviously freak out. Some people might view you as a freak or monster, and want you dead (I know this is a family movie, so they couldn't go that dark). It was about safety, and having a normal life. The mother, grandmother and aunts had been without their pandas for so long that they don't know how they could live with them in the current age, which is why they re-sealed their pandas.

@@shionrasenka I don't know, from what I remember when I watched the movie, until Mei, they all treated the panda as a curse, since there was no need anymore for that form since they are no longer under threat of an army, unlike their ancestor. Mei showed them she can control her transformation, so they should be able to as well if Mei teaches them how to be balanced with your panda aka emotions since she only ever changed because of her emotions.
