Put the tape on in the opposite direction so that it drags into place when you tighten it. Feels good to fix stuff...

You are joking I hope . Wind the tape on clockwise , same direction as you tighten up , else the tape is pushed out and away . Three wraps is usually enough , but you might need more ....trial and error will tell .

Ben and Emily your video of you and your boat heading toward Barbridge in the snow took me right back to when I was 13 years old in 1963 it was a terrible cold and snowy winter we were on our boat carrying coal horse drawn from Anglesey basin to Oldbury when we got froze in to the ice while we where moving, I stood on the ice in front of the boat trying to help our horse by trying to smash the ice with the tiller to no avail we where stuck solid for weeks until a ice breaker came through I had not remembered that for years until I saw your video it bought me so much joy so thank you for your video I find them so relaxing. My family go back till the late 17 hundreds on the canals I was the last of them and how I wish I could live that life again. So thank you for the memories I get from your adventures please keep it up it means so much to people like me. And my granddads boat the Gifford is in the Ellsmere Port museum along with my dads boat the Spey you may have spotted them on you travels any way keep safe and keep on doing what you are doing. Nice one guys. Just one point, when attaching PTFE.tape to a thread, for a right-hand thread, wind it on in a clockwise manner as if fitting a nut to the thread. Shame Alan couldn't be a bit more sociable with Dave, she'd have a lot more fun. Hope your plans stay on-track for at least another week! 😀

What a nightmare water in the boat. Glad the boater who was an engineer passed by. Are you sure he wasn't a ghost as he disappeared 😂 Alan is guarding the canal side and doesn't want to share with other cats.😂 ❤

To save on nappies try old socks full of cheap brand cat litter. Fill around two thirds full, leaving enough space to tie the sock shut. And material tube will do including shirt sleeves and trouser legs etc, although you need to tie off both ends ! They also make good oil catchers in the engine area. Once full, bag them and bin them, loose cat litter can be sprinkled into awkward areas and brushed/vacuumed out.

well done. future tip from an ex heating engineer you need to put the ptfe tap on it the opposite direction to what Emily was doing at the end of the video. hold piece in your left hand and wrap tape on the thread clockwise.

....in the same direction the thread screws in so it doesn't get unwound when it's screwed together.

Good to have family crew to work through the issues. If I may make a gentle suggestion, your engine bay really needs a cleanup and straightening. Doing so will get you more familiar with what is there and how it all fits together...:) A good project for when you do eventually haul out. Safe travels!

You won't get a seal on a compression fitting putting ptfe on the threads, the seal is between the cone in the nose of the fitting and the olive on the pipe. A wrap of tape on the olive might help with an old stretched fitting.

Was it a compression fitting? I didn't notice anything sticking out through the nut so I figured it had a flange 'n washer. 18:10 You're right

Your cooking always looks so delicious and I know it's vegan, which is not as straight forward to do as standard fare without knowing what to use and how to prepare it. That Lasagna looked like a second helping required. With fresh bread 😋 If you still get a problem with the water system you could try reducing the pump pressure. There is likely a screw under the bottom of the pump to do this. I have been having the same problem and soon I shall be replacing the pump because it is not shutting off at the required pressure and causing the relief valve to lift and water in the bilge. It's not difficult to dismantle the switch/diaphragm assembly and check the bits and bobs and also the micro switch. Hopefully I am understandable but I've just finished my dinner and a glass of red wine and I am tired. A hard day on the hard preparing my boat for new antifouling. It's a dirty job but someone has to do it. When you have to count the pennies that someone is "you" 😰 Best wishes from sunny Nidri, Greece.

Hi Ben and Emily, I have the same pump as you. It is connected directly to my water tank, and expells the water directly to the taps. I do not have a pressure tank attached and don't seem to need that extra piece of trouble. So for me what works is water tank - pump - tap. Consider that if you continue to have problems. Oh, I also do not use a pressure release valve. Hope you get everything worked out. ❤

If you had room to store water above all of your outlets , you could pump to the overhead tank and then gravity feed your outlets , but you do need a height difference and the larger the difference the higher the pressure at the outlet . That 'head' difference may be wishful thinking for all your needs ; I mean it might work for a tap , but no way for a shower's pressure requirement . Would a roof mounted rain water catchment tank be feasible , even a temporary system , in the right weather , might supply a cup of tea ! ?

Well done all if you....I felt so satisfied watching you do that! Now, quick question... when I get on the canals (fingers crossed I complete the sale of my flat soon!) I want to keep my van (Vera the jumbo transit camper) and bunny hop her as I move the boat but I'm wondering how easy it'd be to park something that size not too far from the towpath like you do with the yellow peril? 🤔 What do you think? Ben and Emily,you need to get a set of vice grips (pliers) of good qualityfor your toolkit.Thay would of payed themselves off on this job by saving the extra trip to the store.I can see where Emily gets her down to earth qualitys,from her Dad.

You know how it's often cold and rainy, well can you not build a wheelhouse type thing, even if it's just a material cover over a frame (like a convertible cars roof) where the rudder is so you can drive the boat and keep dry and relatively warm?
