You've missed out a very important aspect of the Thatcher years which was that Britain during this period became a significant oil producer and exporter. This affected the whole economy because it made the pound sterling a strong currency which in turn damaged the UK's ability to export goods.

Tbe "turning around the UK economy and modernising it" bit of all this seems to be completely missing - which was the whole point of all these steps.
