I kind of feel sorry for people on social media: they try to monetize something about themselves e.g. appearance, skill or experience etc. But making public what should be private often doesn't end well e.g. the need for attention or viral videos by making extreme statements works in the short term but creates long term problems. Each extreme statement needs to be followed by an even more extreme statement to still get the same reaction. The reason I feel sorry for the social media influencer: if the content is not true, they will get called out as liars rather than admired as trollers. And the influencer also gets addicted to the fame or the money so they have trouble returning to their old life of privacy even when they want to.
