Your plants look great and you're off to a great start! Interesting to learn more about the bees. I had a swarm fly across my garden a couple years ago. I was there and they flew right around me. I didn't know what was going on and it was wild! Keep us updated on the brined asparagus. We've pickled them but not fermented. The chicks look great! Can't wait to get ours!!

I have my brooder box on my back porch. With these cold nights we are getting right now, I am covering the box to keep drafts out. The first cold night I only had the small heat lamp on the youngest ones and I ended up loosing a young duck, I expect from being crushed. It got colder than I expected. They should've had the larger lamp on for that night.

I hope this morning wasn't a heavier frost for you!!! We have had two heavy frosts an I've prepared just in case for tomorrow morning. Your asparagus looks delicious! I've never had asparagus fermented and am excited to hear your opinion once your brining is finished. I love your brooder and may have to copy your design. Good luck with the chicks! Your asparagus had my mouth watering as you snapped it!! That sharp snap means it's very fresh!! I envy all your gardening! We've been having lows in the mid to upper 20's. I've been researching & playing with electroculture. If you've never heard of it, check it out! I've only had some going in the house for a few days & am seeing a difference!! I think you'd find this as interesting & exciting as I do!! 🙂 God bless!

We hope to be able to get some new chicks soon as well. I told my husband i wanted a polish rooster with americauna hens that their chicks would look really cool lol. I have kajari up as well i put some in pots and along side the porch so they can vine up. 100% germination rate. I was able to send seeds to some friends and still have some left so your kindness is off to bless other people so thank you! I think ferral thought you was handing out bottles the way he came running up there and was looking around lol. Henry is on 2 a day till next week then down to 1. Is there a time of day that would be best to give the single bottle? Maybe noon since he will be eating feed in the mornings and evenings. I know he is more than old enough to wean but i wanted to give him a few extra weeks of bottle since he was and is still so small. I'm saving up milk now for icecream i will let you know how that goes😋. Have a beautiful day ❤🐐

I was able to move my chicks out a couple of weeks ago and it was a glorious day!! They were in my sunroom and the dust was insane! If I ever do it again they will be going in the garage. It was just too cold in there even with a heatlamp. When I went and bought them I asked for 2 isa browns, 2 golden comets and then four of them will lay colored eggs but I have no idea what they are. One of the ones that was supposed to be either a comet or isa brown is now completely white and the other doesn't look like either one of those either. I guess when you buy from a store you don't really know what you're getting but I couldn't order a quantity of ten which is required when buying online and I couldn't mix and match. That's a dumb system if he ask me haha!

@@SageandStoneHomestead My white one has tan legs and a huge comb. I know some hens have big combs but I'm wondering if it's a rooster even though they were all supposed to be female.

@lindachandler2293
@lindachandler2293 Жыл бұрын
@@SageandStoneHomestead I can, but it would put an idea in your head that would influence your first bite and maybe ruin it for you. After you try it, tell me what you think it tastes like and then I'll tell you what it smells like to me, which influenced how I thought it tasted. I still eat it because it's so good for me, but it'll never be my favorite. Do yourself a favor and taste first, before smelling, in this one case.
@SageandStoneHomestead
@SageandStoneHomestead Жыл бұрын
OH MY LOL I wonder why if that's why people ferment it with other things.
@lindachandler2293
@lindachandler2293 Жыл бұрын
@@SageandStoneHomestead I never mix it with other things, because its smell over powers the other smells. After it has fermented I can mix bits and pieces of left over ferments together in another brine. A tip I learned from a Sandor Katz video; kept the jar full or put things in a smaller jar, if they're going to be kept in the fridge a while. I never throw away the brine; I just top off other jars with it.

Have you ever had a rabbit doe not lick their kits so they could urinate? I have a doe that has lost the last two litters and I’m certain, after doing necropsies on the last litter, that that is what happened.
@SageandStoneHomestead
@SageandStoneHomestead Жыл бұрын
Woah!!! No I have not ever seen that! We have lost ones born on the wire, and occasionally one or 2 out of a litter for unknown reasons. The only time we lost a whole litter in the nest was a new mom delivered on a cold day and made a bad nest, didn't clean or cover anyone. I'm so sorry, we have a 3 strikes rule, maybe give her one last try!

I looked them up and they sell online for $45 to $65.... I don't have any chicks and really have never thought that I would....maybe God is trying to tell me something.... I know absolutely nothing about chickens except how to cook and eat them.😂...🤷‍♀️ It's crazy, but i couldn't just not buy them.... they are similar to the ones that Jess of R & R showed in one of her videos.... i guess I'll just wait and see what Happens...😂❤
