This song meant so much to me and my wife... I was in Iraq, and we were told I would be home by the end of December. You can never trust the Army. But my wife and I listened to this song often knowing how much longer December was to us. I was home in time to celebrate Christmas with my family. This song will always mean so much more to me than you know. Thank you for writhing this song for us.

Timeless. My favorite to sing along with. Especially in my car, especially at night. Was a favorite when it came out in HS and more meaning during Covid when Adam played the piano and sang it on Jimmy Kimmel. Then again when my mother took her last breath on December 13th 6 years ago. ❤

It's a perfectly imperfect song with just enough vagueness and the right structure to carry the feelings along with giving you the rise up at the end that makes you feel redeemed as it closes. *chefs kiss*

My favorite song ever! ❤ I feel like the song is talking about a guy that had to fly back to California from NY because his Dad was passing away. (“the smell of hospitals in winter”) He’s been there for a couple months helping his Mom deal with things and the funeral, etc. He wishes his girlfriend would come out to CA and see the ocean with him, but she won’t, and they break up. The line, “and the days go by so fast” is my favorite. So poignant. This song can also apply to many different scenarios.

December 21st, 2023... And it's been a long December, so far. I gues the winter makes you laugh a little slower, makes you talk a little lower, and if someone might think I could be forgiven, I wish you would. I can't remember all the times I've tried to tell myself to hold on to these moments as they pass, but all at once I look across a crowded room and see the way that light attaches to a girl.... And it's been a LONG December, but there's reason to believe, that maybe this year will be better than the last (5). Out of order, but meaningfull none the less. These lyrics have come back to me SO MANY times in the moments of my life. That's why I NEVER get tired of hearing it, so I hope Adam NEVER gets tired of singing it.

I think I know what he means, as a artist I've done art that's somehow "perfect" to me for once. The flaws of my ability when I drew it then don't matter now, even though I've drawn better since. It's a weird thought must be really important to him and either he doesn't know why or doesn't want to say, which is valid if it's that personal.
