My old man is still using my Grandpas mid 1970's 045 from the farm that he inherited, even though he has a brand new Husq. It's easier for him to start, and he's most familiar with it so he went back to it after buying a new one. I run an MS170 for most everything, but it's too small so I'm looking for McCulloch 10-10's at estates sales, as well as the Homelite XL12, XL 76, XL 700 etc. Before I knew any of this, I came across all these saws in the past for next to nothing and passed like a noob. I see a 031 or a 036 at just about every estate sale in Iowa.

Great collection Dan. We must find you a 026. It seems every firewood cutter here had one. A 026 was my first Stihl.

Dad ran an 031AV for years. Great saw. If im not mistaken, Stihls numbers are different because they used cubic inches where other brands used cubic centimeters. Just plug the stihl numbers into a CI to CC calculator...again if im not mistaken, but you should get close.

020 AV was the best climbing/bucket saw. 056 magnum was a beast that got replaced by 066. I also had 084 on my truck along w/wiz 77, biggest stihl I ran was the 090. Nice collection

Very nice collection Dan! I'm a bit surprised you haven't included an 026. I know you're in a heavy logging region so a lot of BIG Stihls there. The 026 may not have been big enough to be as popular there but for the firewood cutters in KY, the 026 was probably one of the most popular/desired saws used. The 026 are 48cc or 49cc and pretty light. Lots of power but easy on the shoulders and arms, probably why a lot of guys liked them here. (Me too, I still have one old 026 waiting its turn for a freshen up. )

Get yourself an 041S, they're 72cc & quite rare! Only made, I believe, for 2 years. Keep the rpms to around 10000.

That muffler on those 056 are from a Magnum. I guess it doesn’t necessarily mean it is one but that’s what those mufflers came on. The 45, 45 Super and 56 had a regular style muffler. Nice collection!

Awesome gaggle of Stihl saws...remember those oil cans were 40:1 ....So Stihl sizes make prefect sense.....the model number is in cubic inches....example 056....5.6 cu.in....but as a super,mag, or mag2 they punch them up....ie...056 Mag II...has a 5.7 cu. in displacement..As the Husqvarna model numbers first number is version and the next 2 or 3 numbers are the CC displacement of the saw....example...266...2nd version of a 66 cc saw... My 031AV started pouring bar oil out under the carb box recently, especially when reaching up to trim branches. I found the guts (check ball, spring, and aluminum body) from the oil tank breather had fallen out of the plastic fitting. I had a $2 garage sale junker I was able to swap parts, and loctite in place. I have it fixed but concerned it will fall out again. It needs a tiny hose clamp or something clamped around the plastic valve housing to put a little squeeze on aluminum valve body. Have you ever run into this?

Looks like you are Stihl adding to your collection. The numbers corresponds to cubic inches initially, then the words after ment something extra. 038 AV is 61cc, 038 AV Super is 68cc, and 038 Magnum is 72cc.

The O56 mag II is the 87 cc in that class...have two of them.

Your 041 with the orange top with the low profile air filter cover. Any chance you can tell me or show me where the air filter base sits? I have an 041 that I think has the wrong cover on it.

@@KainKustomGarage A Bit more info for the 1114 model, 020 super, built from Sept. 15, 1977 untill Jan. 15, 1993, without and with chain brake, the 020 av also the 1114 model had 31.8ccm with 2.2 hp, built from 1971-1979, early years on both had points, later years were electric ignition, the later 020 1993-2000 is the following 1129 Model, but I believe the same motor and hp.
