Blimey! Stratford Upon Avon still looks really olde-worlde- (that's probably, pretty much how it would've looked back in Shakespeare's time!)

Every building in Stratford is a reproduction. That house is a Victorian reproduction. There is also no evidence he was born in the house.

The original house owned by John Shakespeare (along with much of Stratford) burned and was rebuilt in 1596, when Shakespeare was 32. It was heavily remodeled over the years, and was in sorry shape when the Birthplace Trust was created in the mid 19th Century. They dismantled it, built a new foundation, and replaced rotten timbers. They reused as much original material as possible, and returned it to what they believed was its 16th Century appearance. Obviously, they got a few things wrong. Other historic houses in Stratford, such as Palmer's Farm and Hall's Croft, are pretty much preserved as they were. Pax is full of crap about them being modern recreations. If they were inclined to do that, they would have rebuilt New Place.

What they learned were definitely easier than today, because they didn't need to learn Shakespeare 😂

Elizabethan Education - Between the ages of 10 and 14 boys leave the Ushers to be taught by the Masters in the following lessons. Latin to English translations Literature including the works of the great classical authors and dramatists, such as Ovid, Plautus, Horace, Virgil, Cicero and Seneca Occasionally the study of Greek Religious education continued Arithmetic At 14 the boys would leave Grammar School to attend University: Elizabethan Life at school was quite strict. During summer the school day started at six o'clock in the morning and finished at five o'clock in the evening. There was a two hour break at midday. Because of the dark nights the hours changed during the winter and school started at seven and finished earlier at four o'clock. The school week consisted of a five full days and a half-day on Thursday which continued for between 40 to 44 weeks of the year. This meant that the school boys spent at least 2,000 hours in school - more than double the current school hours. The school boys were expected to converse in Latin at all times in order to improve their spoken fluency in the language and any boy caught speaking English at school was punished. The punishments were fierce and fifty strokes of the cane was not an uncommon occurrence.

Its strange that such a towering monolith of English literature lived so humbly. I suppose at the time this house was considered upper middle class.
