PJDN is pure British, there's no way it would ever have translated well to the US market
@rogerakhan743 жыл бұрын
It might if it was HipHop MCs and DJ could work if it was filmed in real locations that people from that area would relate to and can appreciate/laugh at e.g. NYC. That's one of the things that made PJDN work for me as it's filmed where I'm from and I'm a fan of Garage. The main problem is that mockumentary style might not translate into comedy as HipHop can be taken too far to the street to be funny.

oh my gosh this made my skin crawl. American's really just do not understand. People Just Do Nothing is so inherently British, you know, the council houses, the Garage music, the working class culture, the comedy. It's so great because it's real, people growing up in inner city London, in flats or council houses, producing music. It could have translated over better I feel like if it was about a group of Hip Hop artists in New York in the Projects or something. But trying to make it about 'trap' 'electro' dj's in the middle of Las Vegas is just so dead.

Yeah the Hip Hop MCs idea would’ve worked, because old school hip-hop is obviously not hot anymore and people don’t run pirate radio stations anymore so it would work for a group of white guys (1 mixed or black guy for decoy obviously) dressed like Wu-tang-clan trying to push their music like it’s something new, even though it’s a bygone era. I think I’d actually enjoy that because I like old school hip hop and so do many others, The shit these guys are doing is so niche and always has been, where as garage actually popped once.
@interstellarbeatteller93063 жыл бұрын
The show is about a rudeboy chav who needs to grow up & was successful because of it's British-ism's. A US show about some DJ's or Hip Hoppers would probably be excellent because it wouldn't have been a blatantly stolen concept & reworked for it's best jokes & built in audience. Goddamn savages, is nothing sacred!

The original Decoy storyline is too sad. In the US that kind of thing would be racially charged so I see why they went away from it. Just imagine not being able to claim your child while she’s being raised by your friend who’s a terrible father and a bad friend that uses you for rides and a weed connection. Then the family moves away with her and all that Decoy suffering so Grindah can have peace of mind? Nah son justice for Decoy and Angel !!! I blame Miche.
@adammitchell94902 жыл бұрын
@@roughneckjihad1003 Well said. Don't think the US is quite as multicultural as us so that storyline would be well inflamatory. Don't think they could pull off "Greek guy thinks mixed race girl is his" especially with how white their Grindah was gonna be! I did think the Angel/Miche/Decoy plot was really sad and should have had a resolution - always Big In Japan to fix that issue I hope! Loved the bit where Decoy took them to meet his uncles for weed. Fucking pissing himself cos his uncles were white and Grindah had done all the Yardie talk all day! Small victory for my favourite character.

PJDN is the most underrated and least talked about UK comedy ever made. It should be mentioned on the same breath as The Office, Royle Family and Peep Show. And as with those comedies which some US producer has watched in a hotel room in London and decided to rip off; whoever made that pilot completely missed the point of why PJDN is funny.

I've always thought of PJDN as a kinda UK equivalent to Trailer Park Boys, even tho TPB is Canadian I think that's closer to what you'd need from a US version of PJDN. The equivalent of some Brentford tower blocks is not the Vegas strip, this all just looks like they're trying to make the cast far too cool in order to launch live shows etc rather than letting it happen naturally.
@rogerakhan743 жыл бұрын
For this to have a chance any to work, it would probably need to be set in the projects of New York or another major US City and probably a hip hop vibe rather than trap. Only problem is that the comedy value would have to lean towards a cross between Fresh Prince of Bel Air and The Big Bang Theory. Also some of the places outside are real locations in Brentford (where I live) so I can fully relate to it and laugh. Additionally Trailer Park Boys is closer to Tower Block Dreams

Amongst other things pjdn is a comedic insight into the 'working class' in London. It comes from a place of peace and love but is still genuine and funny. I feel when Americans try to replicate these delicate cultural balances and try and poke fun of their working class it comes across as very insincere and just falls flat. The people don't have a true perspective of the people they are trying to replicate and we as the audience pick up on it. God this is a mindfuck. Most British sitcoms could, on some level, be adapted for the US market, but this is insane. I come from Brentford, grew up north of the GWR admittedly but my mum as a kid lived on the estate they knocked down to build the houses where Roche lives, and before moving to the country I spent half my time there still. It's THAT specific. All the shooting locations are real, the back alley behind Goddards, Round the back from the old Heidelberg offices by Akash that comes out at the Six Bells, Thames restaurant (which is great btw). We all know a Chabuddy G in West London, in fact, an old school friend Akash Liya who's dad owns Akash Electronics seen in the show was our very own Ultrapaneer growing up. The kids on Green Dragon were ALL versions of the Kurupt crew, nearly as much as the kids on Clayponds but that doesn't look as gritty so I can see the easy decision to use the towers. And it's simply the UKG music that goes only with the exact life circumstances these characters are in that makes the show so on the nose. I suppose I'm saying after that random essay that it's set in a social environment rather than a location, so if someone felt they could move it they really don't get the point of the show to begin with. THROW YA K'S!!!

I can't believe they aren't making any more :( Hope the movie stays true. In this pilot is Decoy the real mother of Angel? The clip at the end is someone in a Burger King 'King' mask (!?!) Throw them Ks. Biggup

Americans just don't get it, why are they wearing Thrasher? That shit isn't exactly cheap, they come off like rich instagram influencers instead of working class people. Trailer Park Boys got it right even though thats set in Canada it does remind me a lot of People Just Do Nothing.

PJDN is centred purely around garage music. For that reason alone, the US cannot imitate the show.

Could you do a video on the documentary that PJDN was based off, Tower Block Dreams?

I've never seen it but I can't beleive the US Shameless was so popular. Like you said, I'm not sure how such heavy UK specific things would be translated.

Whoever cast these people in the American version, needs a new career.

US version looks terrible. Don’t think you can create PDJN. The cast in the U.K. version all knew each other before the show which is why it’s so good

Yanks dont get our humor or bants. It was never gonna work out there. PJDN reps the UKG scene most of it is close to real life as many have lived it or knew someone that was a underground DJ or MC. Including myself as I was the greatest DJ in the galaxy.😆👍
