What’s “ tremendous progress mean”? Does it mean more property with tents? Cause community does not see that as progress. More people moving to San Diego to live in these free tents.

This seems like a decent way to keep people relatively safe and also makes it more efficient to help people according to their situation. Eg some people need temporary help but some need mental health and/or addiction treatment.

I agree. But there needs to be government intervention with the Landlords who are charging obscene rents. There should be rent stabilization. Some people who are homeless are working and can't afford rent.

Minimum wage prevents these people from getting employed. Since it's illegal for an employer to pay an employee less than minimum wage (Yes, it does occur with migrant workers), this puts less qualified candidates out of work. What this means for homeless people is that they have no chance of becoming a candidate for a $20 an hour burger-flipping job when a young kid who just graduated community college (has a place to live, cleans up nicely and can engage in coherent and intelligent human interactions with the public) can do the job. More socialism is NOT the answer. I wish people would understand this.

Sounds like some early success for the homeless and the communities with homelessness issues. One way is to separate those with drug and alcohol issues from others. This would allow those that don’t have issues a quieter experience, allowing sleep and a higher level of safety.
@user-zq6qc6zq5e
@user-zq6qc6zq5e 6 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, all that this does for the communities they put these tents in is increase physical violence and verbal abuse/car theft/vandalism/break-ins/trespassing/stalking/loitering/scavenging/defecating on property/etc.This is what the homeless people bring to inner city communities. Also, there are plenty of wealthy people with drug and alcohol issues, they just aren't doing Tranq by a dumpster next to a Preschool. Poor people who are struggling to get by (without living off the government) also deserve to sleep soundly and safely.

This is a positive step up for these people who find themselves without a home for any one of a thousand reason. I can see why the ‘community’ is resistant to the idea of temporarily housing homeless people in their midst, do they prefer them living on the sidewalks? These are human beings and they have to ‘live’ somewhere - if you can call that living. A great deal of this has to do with an economy which keeps tilting further and further toward the rich. If the minimum wage followed the growth of the economy and inflation back to 1970 it would be over 25 dollars an hour now. I repeat: $25 an hour! People can no longer earn a LIVING wage in this country yet the US continues to mint new billionaires…

I had to laugh when she complained about the Aircraft Noise. When I was in the Military and they'd have a J57 in Water on the Test Cell or a BUFF in Water on the Trim Pad you could feel Shitt Shake for miles. J57 is a Turbojet Engine. Water is Water Injection for Thrust Augmentation. Test Cell is where the Engine is run at Full Power on a Test Stand after major repairs. Trim Pad is a place to run the engine stationary at full power while on the Aircraft. BUFF Big Ugly Flying F****r. B52 Bomber. I've worked 60-80 hours a week since I was 15 years old. I served 4 years in the Military as a Jet Engine Technician to earn my Honorable Discharge. I have 2 years of College with a little help from the GI Bill. I have 4 more years of College that I paid for on my own. 6 years of College total with 2 Degrees. I was still averaging 70 hours of work a week at age 66 when I retired. Yep, I have a safe sleeping site. I just stumbled across a new word and I did a Google Search. Vacation, who knew, apparently some people have fun on a regular basis. Who'd have ever Thunk. All kidding aside I just don't understand how people end up Homeless??? We've all had our asses handed to us repeatedly throughout our lives. The very first thing you think about when you wake up is Obligations and Responsibilities isn't it.

All it takes is one serious illness or injury or a divorce or job lay off. Anyone can become homeless at anytime. Anyone. Remember this. There are people & families who have hard working adults with jobs, who are still living in their cars or tents. Wages are not keeping up with the cost of living, especially rent/mortgages. San Diego has tremendously high costs of rent & home ownership. But, it's happening everywhere. Banks & Wall Street are buying up houses; doing minimal cosmetic work; & renting them out at exorbitant rates. A lot of these companies & banks also don't pay property taxes, and then the municipalities & counties have to take them to court to get pennies on a dollar owed. The housing problems & wage gaps & inflation are caused by banks, Wall Street, and corporations. It's very hard for many families to keep up with the mess these greedy wealthy overlords have created for Americans.

@@kellykat8057 Your only objective and responsibility in life is to put a roof over your own head and meet your own needs. Nobody owes these people anything. If you can't earn enough money to be a self supporting, tax paying contributor to society, you either Retrain or you Move. Sometimes you do Both. When I was young it was my responsibility to meet my needs and behave well enough that my Mother didn't hear Voices. My Mother was a Paranoid Schizophrenic and my Father was an Often Absent Alcoholic. At 18 I left home and I haven't been back. I'm not in charge of or responsible for anyone but me. If someone is Homeless they've fumbled the opportunities available to them in America. I've worked 60-80 hours a week since I was 15 years old. The greedy landlord is not anymore responsible for their failures than I was for my Mother hearing Voices. It's all about Personal Responsibility. Life is truly the hardest thing that will ever happen to any of us. Your first Responsibility is always to not be a burden to others. Nobody cares if I'm happy and I don't care if they're happy. Are they a Burden to Others??? That's a Problem!!!

The majority of homeless people are drug addicts (Tranq, heroin, meth and alcohol), have festering wounds, infectious diseases, scabies, viral hepatitis, smell of the most offensive stench you can imagine, and bring crime to our neighborhoods (physical violence and verbal abuse/car theft/vandalism/break-ins/trespassing/stalking/loitering/scavenging/defecating on property/etc.). I used to be idealistic/compassionate about the homeless situation until I lived in an inner-city neighborhood and experienced the horrific conditions that homeless people bring to low-income neighborhoods, many of which are “chosen” by policymakers as designated “shelter” locations. The residents of these neighborhoods don’t have a choice in the matter!
