We’ve seen Gunther vs dragunov twice before, one in nxt uk and one on a nxt takeover, we should be able to get a small encounter for free similar to Gunther vs Shemus. Plus, it starts a redemption story. Ilja says he defeated Gunther and he can do it again, but in their first encounter he couldn’t(either clean or by interference by Kaiser). Then over the next year or two you build up Dragunov to face Gunther for the world title where you then have Ilja beat him clean for the belt. His climb should have started here and then continue to become one of the top faces of the company, instead we get the yeet man. As long as Gunther wins the whole tournament then it’s fine, I just wouldn’t have had the replacement guy in the semi finals.
