It’s much more theatrical looking, but the warmer gold was so stunning. This leans a bit purple to me, which is fun, but not the effortless ease of the former. It’s always fun to try new looks though! Why not, it’s just hair.

euuuh... the pH is not primordial to vitamin c penetration, 3.5 is the pH that allows the vitamin c to be 90 % ascorbic acid and 10% ascorbate, otherwise you only get the ascorbate form. And no, pH 6 is not less agressive than 3.5, it s a marketing claim. The pH of the skin fluids is 4.6 so 3.5 is closer. And it does not matter anyway because your skin regulates its pH once you put a product on. For example, our skin can even handle lemon juice and vinegar which are super acidic and lower than 3.5. I swear they d be selling anything these days... It doesn't mean that asorbate is ineffective, it's just that they are never transparent about the science with non-scientific consumers.

@shoresofreedom

@@susanwright802 i am a chemist (organic and analytical chemistry) and also know what i say. Actually, there is no need to be a chemist to know about vitamin c in cosmetics, you can ask any formulation enthusiast. With acids, the pH needs to be a certain value to make sure the acid is at least 50% available (it depends on the pKa of each acid). It's important with glycolic and lactic acids otherwise you don't get their clinical results. But with salicylic acid, the salicyliate form which is its only form at pH 6 for example, has proven to be effective just like the acid form. So many brands (like Cerave, etc) advertise "salicylic acid 2%" on the bottle, when it s actually just salicylate. and it works. So maybe the ascorbate form of vitamin c works as well.

I was thinking the same thing listening to him. Goes against anything I’ve ever heard or read by scientists/ chemists/ formulators with respect to ph. Using a dermatologist for marketing purposes is effective. Disturbing tho that people will believe it. As you say, not that the product won’t work. It’s the transparency.

Hey Dr Matt hete! Love the passion! It’s great to see some fellow skincare enthusiasts. The evidence for higher pH vit C transport revolves around sodium - vit c transporter which has a pKa of 7. This is separate from the CE Ferulic studies. Let me know if you have a hard time finding them! Also, the natural pH of skin varies on the basis of many factors, but usually sits at about 5.5 for the average person. Hope this helps!

L’Oreal has been included on PETA’s list of companies that test on animals for many years because it refused to adopt a company-wide policy against tests on animals for both its ingredients and finished products, and because it sells cosmetics products in China that are required by law to be tested on animals by government agencies. In order to be listed as “cruelty-free” with PETA a company must agree that it does not and will not conduct, commission pay for, or allow tests on animals for any of their ingredients, formulations, and products, anywhere in the world.

"It's not me, it's the TRETINOIN!!" 🤣🤣Okay but why is this the most relatable thing I've ever heard? I started Tret in spring 2022 and my skin STILL hasn't fully acclimated. I literally didn't wear foundation for eight months because it just looked like flakes all over my face. I started "slugging" with Cerave Healing Ointment three months ago and that seems to be helping, but I still can only apply foundation with a beauty blender, since a brush roughs up any dry patches. I think us dry-skinned folks tend to struggle worse with starting Tret than other people, and the fact that you're going through it during the cold, dry winter months will only exacerbate things. The struggle is real but you'll get through it! Wonderful video, as always!

But I only saw one comment address this… and I want to make sure people are aware L’Oréal is most definitely NOT cruelty free… they use all the loopholes to test on animals from third party and on but the main tell is that they sell in China… There HAS been movement for China to stop that requirement… and maybe L’Oréal is part of that… which is great… but as of now… NOT cruelty free.

Consumers should know that L'oreal tests their products on animals. A few of the brands that they own such as Elf are cruelty free, but the parent company is not. Every time you purchase L'oreal you are sending a message to them that the cruel and very, very unnecessary testing on animals is OK. Please consider your purchase before you give any brand your hard earned money.

It's marketing honestly. I have a degree in and work in marketing, but I also worked in cosmetic retail for brands Estee Lauder, Lancome, and Clinique (which doesn't use fragrance), and a lot of legacy consumers and older women equate fragrance with luxury and high-end. They also have more disposable income and are willing to spend. Luxury skincare is full of fragrance and even makeup too (if you don't believe me just smell a Lancome blush or a Gucci lipstick). I'm not sure why brands think we need to smell like a garden lol 😂 Fortunately, we have access to a lot of education and understand that it can be problematic and sensitizing for people with an array of skin conditions. I'm more surprised by "medical-grade" brands sold at the derm, like Skinceuticals and Dermalogica, that use fragrance. It baffles me.

Hi - I am not a beauty blogger (at all), but I do know that flaking was something painful - but I recovered last year from my "pandemic skin" dry and flaky - (and not fortified at all!) by putting a salve or a balm (I like antipodes balm, 22 bucks - or the Honest brand has a good balm), and REN has a night balm that I like, to help build back the compromised area - and then use a more oily primer (which is a misnomer) for daily use - but a more hydrating formula would actually help I guess.

Since it was mentioned in the video, just an fyi to everyone looking for cruelty free products, L'Oreal does indeed say they do not test on animals, however, they do pay other 3rd parties to test their products on animals for them. This loophole has allowed them to keep this claim. Overall, most people generally do not consider them to actually be cruelty free for this reason! Just wanted to throw this out there in case anyone decides to buy L'Oreal specifically because they 'don't test on animals'!

L'oreal might try to find new ways of testing products but they are not cruelty free. They still have productions in China where it is required by law to test certain ingredients on animals. Brands will try to make themselves look ethical when they are not, it is like greenwashing in the fashion industry. Please do your own research on brands before buying from them. There are many articles online explaining how L'oreal get away with claiming to be cruelty free when they are not. I just wanted to mention that for anyone who does not want to support animal testing :)
