There's nothing about my favorite character, Conrad Hensley in San Francisco, the Suicidal Freezer Unit, prison & his stoic philosophy awakening. That balanced out the greed & obscene luxury of Croker.

Read the book decades ago. I actually worked in a ginormous "Suicidal Freezer Unit" in Honolulu so that part of the book really stuck to me. It was so strange to bust my ass like I was working on the North or South Pole and then punching out and riding a bus back home to Waikiki.

Interesting. I read that book a couple of times about 20 years ago and I wondered if anyone would ever try to make a show or movie out of it. There is SO MUCH going on in that book that I'm skeptical about how this is going to turn out but I gotta give it a try when it comes out.

@@punchkitty007 That was the part I was most skeptical about - How they were going to work in some whole side story about an unemployed guy getting his car impounded, ending up in prison, becoming a Stoic and escaping during an earthquake. I had a feeling that wasn't gonna make the cut.

I'm confused. I'm confused about everything having to do with this series. Tom Wolf is one of my favorite writers. Funny thing is, at the time I heard about this production, A Man in Full, was sitting on my bed's bookshelf. I was re-reading it. Such a coincidence. Regina King is acting royalty to me. So is the impossibly beautiful Lucy Liu, who also happens to be a fine artist. It's marvelous to see her back on the screen. Jeff Daniels: brilliant. In fact, all of the acting in this production is "high cotton." Which gets me to my first area of confusion. Who, or what 8-bit primitive computer at Netflix makes decisions about how long a series should run? Are they doing lines of coke, then deciding what to cancel? Queen's Gambit Ozark Breaking Bad Orange is the New Black Killing Eve It seems like this is the Netflix algorithm: 1. Establish a series. 2. Allow it to mature into something great. 3. As soon as it becomes great, cancel, cancel, cancel it you fools! We're running a business! 4. Spawn several low quality replacement shows. Solve for quantity over quality. What are they doing? If those people at Netflix were running an artillery battery, they'd sight-in a target, clobber it, then ignore the correct inputs and proceed with random saturation fire. I don't understand. And why was this production so raunchy? I couldn't believe the ending scene. Don't get me wrong. I'm not offended. Some Porn is good for most people, and this was well produced. Seriously. Maybe it's time to challenge the erect male taboo in film. But the Porn and the level of cussing throughout (e.g., "I'll [blank] your intestines" or the horse scene) seemed gratuitous. I don't understand how they could have thought that those choices were needed to propel the story, especially since Tom Wolf already wrote a great story. I don't understand why the production seemed to rush to a conclusion. I swear it: This hurried ending seemed like some executive at Netflix sent an e-mail to cancel the series early and the ending was a middle finger salute back to the executive. Or maybe this was some kind of trial to test the workability of introducing Porn into the Netflix production output. As a viewer, I'm fine with that. Netflix could include dedicated X-rated Porn, or bake it into productions. They'd probably increase revenue. My request is, if you're placing the Porn in a story, it should add story-telling value. Which gets us back to the algorithm. Given the fine acting and Wolf's story, this series needed to go seasons. It could have been something truly amazing. As it was, it was very good, but there was a lot more potential left on the cutting room floor. A series Not in Full.

@@Teal_Seal also, the pace was really good, too. Nowadays, there's just too much extra fluff. I really like symbolism, but some directors really overuse it, and sometimes quality performances would serve the piece better. But, with Mrs. King's direction, I can just sit back and let the episodes entertain me without me having to work at it. It just flows well!
