Vess Lawbaugh went ashore with the U.S. Marines at Red Beach near Da Nang, I Corps, in 1965. He served two tours in South Vietnam, first as a captain, next as a major. He was severely wounded by a mine explosion and spent more than 100 days in the hospital. He shares memories of his tours, and compares how the war changed between them.
