you know i dont know if ive actually seen the bljs decide a game in these. usually the person ahead before bljs is ahead after bljs still. mizkif might be the only exception but i forget if he was ahead before his meltdown

Back when SC2 was bigger they would release replay packs for tournaments with dummy game 3s in best of 3s that went 2-0, commitment to avoiding spoilers at all costs is a lost art

Can someone explain why 16 star is a popular category? I get that categories are arbitrary, but does 16 have a specific significance in the lore of SM64 running?

15 stars are the requirement for mips to spawn in the basement. You then get the 1st star in dire dire docks to move the portal so that you can go to fire sea. 16 stars is the minimum requirement to get to 2nd floor of the castle without sbljs which is even harder than the normal bljs. I would say that 16 star is popular because it's (imo) the easiest to learn. The only really moderately difficult trick is bljs and those aren't too bad. 70 star - the minimum stars you can beat the game without doing any tricks, requires a lot more routing and learning.

Can someone tell me why the Mips Star isn't used in 16 Star? Since it's mandatory to grab him anyways, i never understood why they don't skip a star before.

Mips wont show up unless you have 15 stars, and you need to grab a star after mips, so you'll always get to 17 with the mips star.

It certainly wasn't a classy move, but I don't think it's a huge deal. It allowed Papaplatte to not have to finish his run either and get a quick 2-0. Also Coney did congratulate Papaplatte at the end and tell him 'well played'.
