It's good that you clarify this problem here. Many artist would be okay if someone dubbed their artwork, but some don't want that and I really like it that you ask the artist for permission! And it's good that you see your mistake and want to correct it! I have to say that you and your team make those comics better than they already are! Your dubbing for overwatch comics (and other fandoms too) are incredibly awesome! Also, I hope you have a nice trip in Portugal and Spain!

Dude, I've been following your work since Newgrounds, and I love what you and the others have done. I know it was hard, especially being on vacation and all, but being willing to have this level of transparency is definitely going against the recent scandals regarding online content creators. I can't speak for everyone, but I don't think what you were doing was anything like Channel Awesome or Kyotosomo, since your videos clearly had a lot of time, effort, and money put into them, so monetization didn't seem like a problem to me. Still, even though Kyotosomo is probably putting a sour taste in some comic artists' mouths, I believe your integrity, the integrity of the people you work with, and the goodwill of this video will keep AWWN going for a while without any problems. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for addressing this topic, and doing it so well! The Kyotosomo subject was something I was following closely on social media, and the Channel Awesome one I was following a little less closely. And even though I think you gave great input on Twitter, I think this clarification was well done! I'm a big fan of your comic dubs, as well as you and the cast as VAs, so your perspective on this means a lot!

Yo, it’s mega cool that you’ve come out about all this. I think something along these lines happened a year or two back with Homestuck comic dubbers, I’m not sure what the outcome was, but the person involved in a lot of them has moved on and become a well known person in various communities and from what I’ve understood, well loved and appreciated? Anyway, I’ll admit, mentioning monetization early on to the artists themselves should have been the first thing, but there isn’t exactly a guidebook to all this, so I’m glad that you’re going to be working with them more in the future! (I’m also glad to know you’ve always gotten permission to dub these cause also, I know that can become a thing that slips a lot of people’s minds, heh.)

Honestly I'm happy you told us what's really going on instead of, like most KZfaqrs talking about monetization issues, cover it up or blame someone else. I personally love what you do and everyone involved. What I'm getting from this is that some people dont like you monetizing portions of there work. Which is understandable. However, the final out come of your work has never made me not enjoy every second of what you have to share with me as a fan. I give props to the artists. And if anyone feels like you have taken away from there work I would have to say I have always gotten enjoyment from the videos and has never made me think bad of anyone involved or the content being shared.

I think because you are such a good job with the dubs, most artists will grant permission, though of course I noticed you say you are paying your VAs and supporting MacLeod but you did not say you were paying the comic artists. it strikes me as odd that you’d not think about paying them, too. Now I am not on anyone’s side or anything I’m just a curious person with little knowledge on the subject. However can it not be claimed that a person is transforming the work into their own unique thing with their voice overs? I understand how much work goes into making a comic but can’t it also be argued that voice overs of quality usually take quite a bit of work and time as well and since the artist gave uploads these things publicly, someone using them to voice over and create their own work would be transformative in nature as far as I understand things. Like I said I’m not an expert on any of these things and I’m not trying to say one side is right I’m just trying to understand a bit better so any information would be nice.
