Glockta gets the majority of praise when it comes to who the community normally loves most. But Logen Nine Fingers all day. His bloody, bumbling quest to change is amazing and so heart wrenching. Can't wait for Richard (and hopefully Austin) to get all the way through the trilogy.

Logens character is rlly rounded out by the prequel short story and Red Country. With the inclusion of those two? Damn the most moving and messed up character. Loved it! I think Jezal was my fave tho despite probably being the least developed of the big 3 in the trilogy

The first law trilogy is one of my alltime favorite fantasy series of all time and I consider the blade itself as one of the most iconic and thrilling modern openings of fantasy literature. Your review / podcast was of equal quality and does the book justice, I very much enjoyed your enthusiasm regarding the book. Kind regards from Germany and I wish you and your viewers wonderful holidays.

Great video guys, considering you gave this first book a 8.80 score overall I can almost garuntee that The First Law will become one of your favourite series of all time. Most of the fandom (myself included) agree that this is one of the weakest in the 10 book series. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the rest of the trilogy.

I would love to see a video from you guys that just gives brief reviews and explanations into books that you have rated overall to be 5 or lower. I think this would really put into perspective the books that you give 7s. From what I’ve seen it looks like 7s are the more popular number that you give for an overall rating which lends itself to become a sort of normal rating and a 7 almost has its significance diminished because of how few books you’ve talked about fall under a 7. Just a thought. Thanks for another great episode!
@2ToRamble

That is a fair point. I (Richard) would have trouble doing a whole episode on a sub 5 book, but maybe something more rapid fire could work. I also tend to read books on recommendation so I don't read too many awful books, just a few.

Have only read about a third of the book, am in the transition out of the beginning stage. Have not picked it up in a while though. Everytime I sit down it's great. Glokta especially is fantastic, the other characters slow things down a bit for me, although I appreciate the worldbuilding witnessed through Jezal. Since few signs of a plot has emerged yet, the book struggles to draw me in. But when it does it's good, and I know that it only gets better. Looking forward to picking it up again asap. ---Point is that Richard is correct that beginning is kind of slow, but don't be weak like me! Also, does Austin read?

I was not a huge fan of this series. I listened to them while working several years ago, and so maybe I would like them more now. The one thing I remember vividly hating was how much they focused on one particular characters pain. I feel like it was mentioned in excess every time that character did anything.
@2ToRamble

Man, I (Richard) completely disagree. I think that made the character so much more compelling. My first thought about him, was how due to his deformity and pain he had to think 5 steps ahead of others. Hope you give the series another go.

@stevenburton7725

Although there wasn’t a huge overarching plot that was known to the reader, there was a plot for each character. This book is amazing at showing how world building can exist in a first person perspective, creates characters whose identities are so vastly different that are all likeable, and sends those characters into the small steps that begin a larger journey. Jezal was there for the tournament, Logan was starting a new life after the death of his friends, Bayaz is coming back into the Union, Ferro is escaping her past, and Sand is seeing cracks in the system he works within. Each character had their own small plot to get them into the story. And each plot creates the background we will use as the story progresses. There’s no Star Wars trope of killing the family to put the protagonist on a revenge path, and the like. It is a subversion of Campbell’s theorem, and is proving that stories can have other ways to progress the plot

It’s heavily character driven which makes up for the lack of a solid plot in the first book. Nonetheless, there is a plot and it did slowly form throughout the novel albeit at a very slow pace.
