In May 2024 we spent 3 weeks in Thessaloniki and Athens, Greece and a week in Izmir, Turkey. Watch to find out how much it cost us for the whole month.
We are Harry and Sharlene, a retired military couple who sold the house and are now full-time nomads, travelling the world on our military pension. Subscribe to keep up with where we are going and how much it costs.

Wow, what a blast from the past, memories and a pleasure to serve with you on the "tin nickel"! I've subscribed to your channel. If we are ever in the Bay Area I will be sure to look you up!

Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm new to your channel. How do you choose which locations to visit? Also how much luggage do you carry along with you? I'm retired & considering slow traveling so I'm curious about the logistics.

Welcome! Glad you found us. We are not experts by any means, we are fairly new to this lifestyle and still learning, so we have made lots of mistakes. Initially we worried about being able to stay under budget so started in Albania knowing it was cheaper and just loved it! We lived a great life there (not worried about budgets at all) and still came under budget! As Americans we can stay up to 1 year too, so we will be going back. From there it was just a matter of moving to countries that were close (saves time and money). As for luggage, we started with too much! We now have 1 carry on and 1 backpack each. Makes moving so much less stressful! Keep us up to date on what you decide to do.

Nice! You sure keep detailed records! When it comes to the eSIM, there are so many choices, how did you decide which one was right for you?

For detailed records I use an app called TravelSpend, and because it is on my phone and don't need wifi to use it I can enter anything we spend immediately. I can even enter what payment method we used, what category (hence the pie chart), and it even converts it for you to your own currency (so we know how close we are to hitting budget in USD). Love it. As for esim, I watched lots of youtube videos. You are right, there are lots of options, but I think most of the big ones are very similar in what the offer. We went with Airalo because they were having a sale at the time. I'm thinking that we might try Flexiroam when they have their next super sale to compare ...

It would be nice if you added up all the separate accommodation costs. To give a total for the month/ average per day.

Whoops, don't know how we missed mentioning the total for the accommodation category. We did mention the nightly rate in each place, but didn't actually state the total. Our total accommodation for the month of May was $1407.57 or an average of $45.40 per night. Thanks for keeping us on track!
