Join us for a whole month in South Africa's Kruger National Park as we travel from the south to the far north and back again staying at ten different rest camps. Stunning scenery, amazing animals, beautiful birds and excellent accomodation, the Kruger has it all.
This episode features our return to Lower Sabie Rest Camp.

Whoa amazing sightings and filming Codger. I appreciate how you share all the creatures as you encounter them, not just the Big 5 or the predators.

Thanks for another episode. The photos of the leopards on the sunset drive were fantastic. Wish I could take photos like those

That's one of those times when an expensive camera, a telephoto lens and years of experience come into play. Also a lot of luck as taking photos in the dark is really hit and miss, I took around 300 photos that evening and ended up with half a dozen good ones.

Wonderful footage of the lioness and the elephant. We loved Lower Sabie, blessed with 3 leopard sightings at the end of our stay. Thanks for sharing.

Great videos thank you. So nice seeing the wildlife & your trip. Do you prefer camping at the southern camps or northern camps? Planning a trip with my family to possibly Berg en Dal & lower sabie later this year in Summer.

Both! North is quieter but still good sightings. If you want to see rhino then you have to go to Skukuza or south, none in the north. Guaranteed lions around Satara but also good around Lower Sabie. Leopards are scarce everywhere but we have seen just as many in the north as in the south. Cheetah are supposed to be good around Lower Sabie/Crocodile Bridge but we have never seen any there, all our sightings have been north of Skukuza up to Mopani. Wild dogs good at Orpen and Skukuza although many have reported sightings at Berg en dal and Croc Bridge. Leopards are said to be good along the S25 from Berg en dal but we have never been lucky. You will see plenty wherever you go!

@@oldcodgerwithacamera I wish you could post videos all year (other than "30 days in the Kruger"but I imagine that is an expensive hobby") Regardless, I appreciate and am thankful for the safari experience/entertainment you provide us.

The good news is that we are going back to the Kgalagadi and Kruger at the end of January next year for six weeks so there will be a 'Series 2'. It takes a couple of months to produce the videos so look out for them next summer.

Many thanks! I used a GoPro Hero 5 mounted on the windscreen but the quality on that can be a bit hit and miss. I think the later ones are better or the DJI Osmo Action. For talking to camera and some side shots I used a DJI Pocket 2 and for the wildlife video a Canon M50 with a 50-200mm lens. Finally for still photography I use a Canon 7D Mk II with a Sigma 150-600mm lens. A lot of gear but acquired over many years.

@@oldcodgerwithacamera thanks! Great set of gear you got there. I'll visit Kruger Park in july 2023. Still looking what kind of lens I should bring. I was thinking about the Sony 200-600 in combination with the Sony A7IV. Right now i'm using the Sigma 150-600 in combination with the Nikon D7500. For that price a great lens too!

Congratulations on seeing the Cerval!!! So Lucky! Out of curiosity, how much do you speed up the driving portion of the videos? Again, thanks for sharing your adventures!
@oldcodgerwithacamera
@oldcodgerwithacamera Жыл бұрын
Apart from the obvious sections such as at Punda Maria which was sped up 5000%, generally not at all. I did notice when editing the videos that the GoPro seems to make things look faster but we normally drive at between 20kph and 30kph on the dirt roads. The speed limit on those roads is 40kph but that is too fast given all the pot-holes and corrugations. On the tar roads the speed limit is 50kph but we will only drive at that speed if we are tight on time getting back to camp.
