Join us for a whole month in South Africa's Kruger National Park as we travel from the south to the far north and back again staying at ten different rest camps. Stunning scenery, amazing animals, beautiful birds and excellent accomodation, the Kruger has it all.
This episode features our final two days at Satara Rest Camp.

Loving this series, found it a bit late but still wonderful! June is when we normally visit the park and we love that time of year. Sightings may be a bit tougher than Aug/Sep but we love the long, golden grass and cold nights. Looking forward to the rest of this series 👏👏👏

The photographs from the night drive are stunning!!!! On a night drive from Satara - almost 20 years ago and during our first visit to Kruger - we spotted a black rhino. This encounter was the first and the last so far.

I really enjoy your videos! I was born in Mozambique, spent many days in Kruger as my dad was a master photographer! I work in Nigeria now; sadly, not many wild animals over here. But at least I can watch your great videography and enjoy the game drives through you! Thank you!

Actually Sandy and I stopped going out early as we saw very little so we took our time having coffee, I always took my coffee machine with, then we had breakfast, he would take square slice and black pudding as we had to scottish butcher close to us. I am a vegetarian so it was quick for me.

We've just finished packing, our flight is tomorrow, wow. A week today, we'll be in Satara so this video bodes well. Super excited, will we get beginners luck? Only downside is we fly into 100 % thunderstorm warning. Thanks for sharing and giving us an insight of what maybe.

I do love your videos. I used to work next to the kruger and when I miss kruger I play your videos. How on earth do you get to do month long stints, the cost aside would floor me.

Many thanks for watching. The secret to being able to afford a month in the Kruger is to retire! Although we only have our state pensions we no longer have a mortgage and are bettter off than when we were working. Add to that that we don't drink (much!) don't go out to restaurants, don't get takeaways or coffee out and scrimp and save wherever we can and we end up with enough for a month in he Kruger most years!

You know, I never even realised until I watched it again! Saw him this year at a distance and he is much more distinctive than when seen close up.

Why do you speed pass all the cars after the gate opened?
@oldcodgerwithacamera
@oldcodgerwithacamera Жыл бұрын
No 'speeding' involved, the cars in front were travelling at around 30 kph as they are perfectly entitled to do but we chose to follow the OSV which was going faster but still within the speed limit of 50 kph.

Hi, i see there by your sightings at the end if the video it says you saw a honeybadger but i didnt see it in the video...
@oldcodgerwithacamera

The list includes all animals/birds we saw on the trip not just those. Sometimes the sightings are too short to get the camera out and honey badgers run quite fast!

Thanks for sharing. What would be an average distance to drive each day or how many hours (though know depends on whether you spot animals). Just thinking when planning how many days to stay at each rest camp

I’ve never really worked on distance before but I guess it would be at least 100 kilometres a day. My recommendation is to split the day in two leaving the camp as soon as the gates open and drive at least until 10am or, preferably until noon. Then go back to camp for lunch and a rest and go out again at 3pm or 4pm and stay out until the gates close. Your best sightings are likely to be first thing in the morning so it’s important to get out of the gate as soon as it opens. If it’s a hot day then things will quieten down around 10am. The main thing is to drive as many roads as you can, reasonably slowly, and it doesn’t matter if you drive the same roads again and again as every day is different. If you want to choose a camp to stay at the longest then I’d suggest Satara would be your best bet.

@@oldcodgerwithacamera it's on youtube and it's the Hoedspruit elephant rehabilitation and development. It's near the Orpen gate and in Kapama reserve. You will fall in love with the herd.
