I spent the summers of my early childhood with my grandparents in Bonny Blue. Many fond memories remain of so many good people there, most of them long deceased now. It was such a tight knit little community…I’d pack up and move today if I knew of a place in this country that was anything like it.

My parents grew up in Lee County. My maternal grandfather was a coal miner until the mid 50s when he moved the family to Indiana right after my mom graduated from Thomas Walker.

So many memories of St. Charles. I went to the Church of God next to the school with my family. I also went to St. Charles Elementary from head start to 2nd grade, it is still open.😊 It still blows my mind that it use to be the high school, because when I became an adult and went into the school, the stairs are sooo much smaller than I remember as a child. I also remember when Lone Mountain Mining used to host a fishing day for all of us kids. I have family up on Webb Hill, and at the bottom.😅

Good morn! That RR equipment is a spiking machine!
@HamRadioTrainsThings6 ай бұрын
That rail machine might be a spike driver. Im not 100 percent sure on that though. Also the trains still load up there every so often. Usually at Benedict. The coal there comes out of Kentucky at I believe the Darby mines which was part of Lone Mountain operations over in Harlan county. One of those Darby mines blew up back in 2007 taking the lives of several miners. I remember passing a few ambulances that night heading towards the hospital in Big Stone.

I had to set my coffee down when I heard you say Bonny Blue. Then I had to back up the video a couple seconds to make sure I heard what I thought I heard. My dad was born there in 1929. His family eventually settled in Coal Creek Tennessee in the early 30's. They changed the town's name to Lake City. Then had another name change again to what's it's called now, Rocky Top. My cousin says she has lived in 3 different towns and never had to move. 😃 Thank you both for your videos. I enjoy them all, but this one is now my favorite. God bless

Love your videos guys! We are living in Tampa I am 56 and my wife works from home with the computer and phones. We are looking to buy a house in a town that is comfortable for us. We're tired of the crying and traffic. Was wondering if you guys could recommend a few nice little towns that has low crime but yet entertaining enough to hang out at certain businesses or stores. Just a nice little old town with nice people basically. My family is from Kentucky moved to Dayton Ohio but I have never lived there. Just a few towns that you believe would be nice to live in and maybe retire. Thank you

If you all ever get around Knoxville, the Museum of Appalachia near Clinton TN is very good and i think you would like it. One of the exhibits is about Henry Harrison Mayes who created the Jesus Saves concrete crosses found in Harlan (near Dairy Hut) and along many roadsides. The whole museum is excellent. Its close to I75

What cellphone service you have I can’t ever get service when I’m down in them neck of the woods
@lucycucy6 ай бұрын
It’s very hit or miss depending on where you are, service is still very spotty here. In most places, Verizon picks up the best. But almost nothing picks up in St. Charles or Keokee. Some use Cricket and Appalachian Wireless and seem to pick up some in areas where Verizon and AT&T have no service, like in Harlan. I use to get a kick out of the fact that the only place that my Verizon phone seemed to pick up in St. Charles, was on the stage, inside the gym of the school.😅
