Was going to get this head unit but found out from talking to Tacoma Beast you loose most of the Information from the infotainment above the steering wheel like average gas mileage average trip fuel economy and tire pressure monitor. Not worth it if you loose these items

This is what makes me hesitant as well. I might look into replacing my 2019 head unit with a used 2020+ head unit though so I can use android auto.

Can you clarify? Do you mean to say the information all together (both above the steering wheel and on the main screen) does not show, so you lose this information altogether? Or does it still show in one of the 2 areas?

Love the content! what impresses me most is you BUY most of the products you review instead of getting handouts like other content creators. It's easy to be excited about a free $1400 product given to you. Whereas on the other hand when you spend your HARD EARNED $ on the same item we tend to scrutinize it more.

Chloe, thanks for the quality content. Your attention to detail makes me think you are an engineer by trade. I really like the professional fitment of this unit in your truck. As for JBL systems, I and my son have owned multiple Toyotas since JBL was available. While the JBLs do provide better audio quality over non-JBL systems, they are only a fraction of what is possible (and practical). Better sound can be achieved with just better speakers. Getting ready for a Pioneer unit install in my wife’s durable 2013 Highlander Limited.

"No manual pause button." ~ 4:00 mins in; the stock 2016 - 2019 head unit can pause & resume via the steering wheel MODE button. You just need to hold it for 1.5sec. This will pause the current song and then resume with another press. (I'm unclear if this will work wit the Stinger head unit, but it should be very easy to test.) Thanks for all the quality Taco videos; always a quality watch. 🤓🤙🌮🚙

Great video explaining the features on the head unit. The price is insane, but there is a lot to it. I would think they would sell two versions instead of selling a bunch of wiring harnesses to people who are not going to use them. It would at least reduce the price a little. Im more curious about the anytime camera mod. DO you have a video on that? I guess i missed it if you do.

In my 2023 taco, if you hold the mode button on the steering wheel it will pause whatever is streaming. Should work for yours as well. Thanks for another great video!

I think you could probably use the anytime camera kit as it just spoofs the car being put into reverse and selects the camera that you choose. It wouldn’t work as well with the camera app but the switch would still work.

The Heigh10 is a great headunit! As a Car Audio SQ (Sound Quality) guy, this headunit was big news to me a couple years ago when it came out due to its Optical output which also had Variable volume control. That was important because other radios with optical digital outputs usually had fixed volume control - and you needed to control volume using your DSP controller. (Even the High End Sony GS9).

For my application, I was disappointed cause the Pre-amp outputs are lowend 2 volts only... The signal ends up becoming noisy when it gets to my amp.

Chloe what I would like to see in a future video regarding the heigh10 is the function of being able to link up a Chromecast or firestick to it and be driving. Haven't found a whole lotta info regarding that. Illegal maybe, butttt, its for my passengers lmao appreciate the quality content keep it up!

For folks without android auto/carplay that really sucks. Luckily I think the 2020+ units work just fine. I really don't like aftermarket infotainment...they always seem to fail. I hope yours works for years. Thanks for the video, cheers.

I'm not sure what that Stinger head unit kit is using to run the steering wheel controls but I programmed play/pause right into my steering wheel controls using the Maestro RR on my kenwood (installed in a 2021 TRD OR). during the flashing process for the Maestro you assign each steering wheel control button for what you want it to do (up to two functions per button by clicking or holding). The setup screen presents them as default suggestions which you can then tweak to your liking before making it final, so I flipped the volume/seek buttons so that volume is vertical and seek is horizontal, and then I added a screen off toggle by holding the siri button ( click siri still triggers siri/voice), and I retained the factory play/pause which is holding on the mode/source button. Works great. Just adding this to say that whatever is being used to supply SWC to the Stinger may be able to be set up similarly. Nice work and result, looks good, I considered that Stinger unit myself but opted to run what I already owned and pulled from the last vehicle I sold. I do wish I had a larger screen like that.

Questions, does the unit retain the main screen for the instrument cluster like the compass and the media tab and Does also have the extra gauges on the head unit.

Can you dim, also how dark can you dim it, or turn off the screen for night time driving? And does turning off the screen allow music to continue playing while it does that? Would be nice to be able to use Waze on the screen instead of the Toyota GPS.

So these past 2 years my display is starting to have issues on my Tacoma (2014), it's the regular entune. Just has the overlay map and weather update for the city you're in (it doesn't work in every city though). Lately it seems unresponsive or it just starts pressing buttons randomly. It doesn't happen all the time but i noticed that once i came to Texas is happening more often. It did happen in California once or twice when it was really hot, so not sure if humidity is the main cause. I also did the update. I mean the system is not bad, i really don't need much. I just plug in my USB and use my own music and use Waze and that's pretty much all i need. But if it eventually fails then might have to start looking for a substitute. Probably get better speakers while I'm at it.

Since I’m older my eyes are older too so the screen size is great. The price on the other hand is borderline ridiculous so I’ll stay with the unit that came in my Tacoma and use my 67 Design mount system for my iPad and iPhone. You did a great job showing the install of the system !!! Keep the content coming

Give it some time and you will see that this is a much better unit. You can do so much customization compare to the factory unit, that is a no brainer. I was about to buy this one, but ultimately went for the Kenwood DMX1057XR because of the quality of the screen and the Apple wireless CarPlay. FYI, to access menus and watch anything on HDM while driving you just need to bypass the radio.

when I press and hold the mute button on the steering wheel it actually pauses my sat radio or my spotify... Not sure if it will do it for you on the aftermarket Head Unit? thats on my 2021 TRD Sport. Nice vid.

Chloe - they make USB CD Players that are compatible with Android radios. Since the Stinger Heigh10 is essentially a Android Radio, there's a good chance that one of these USB CD Players will work on it - something you worked have to explore. Another option to play CD's on it is to usea universal 1/2 DIN CD Player and hook it up to the Stinger Heigh10 using the RCA Aux inputs. Just a tip to you and anyone else who still uses CD's often 👍

I just installed the same Stinger Head Unit in my Tacoma 2021 two weeks ago. Initially I replaced the OEM radio with the T10 Android Head Unit. Since the very beginning, I was struggling with it… I had problems with the reception on the FM stations (always intermittent interference without any obstruction nearby), and I was not able to lock on any AM station… I’m an Android guy.. that’s why I bought it, however, trying to connect to Android Auto, either wired or wireless, it was a nightmare.. I got rid of it and installed this Stinger unit… right of the bat, it worked flawless.. fully plug & play… the sound quality is way much better... I’m really happy with the unit… If you want a good quality aftermarket head unit, this is an excellent option.

How about the call volume while using CarPlay? Mine is very low. Bluetooth is good.

@@Jam27401122 The volume settings are at the Head Unit for the bluetooth, the phone, ect., however, for the phone, the volume input comes from the phone itself.. the same happened to me on my Galaxy... you'll have to increase the volume on your phone, to fix the issue.

I had this unit put in my 22 TRD Sport Love it so far but I do have one problem. I can hardly hear Siri. My phone volume is all the way up and I crank up the stinger volume but siris voice is very faint…Is there a setting in my unit or in my phone that will increase Siri’s voice volume?

One question that still hasn't been answered correctly yet in my opinion. Is if the information on the instrument cluster is retained like average mpg, current mpg, pitch roll, tire pressure monitoring. Cloe says she still gets these features on her truck but Tacoma Beast is saying when installing this head unit you lose these features. When you installed this do you still have these features?

Hi Chloe, I have a stinger elev8 which is their 8 inch deck. With stock speakers the sound is only going to be so good. If you want it to sound great you will need to go the whole 9 yards and change speakers, add an amp , sub and a DSP. That head unit also has provisions for an optical cable which will further improve your sound. Hope that helps.

You're absolutely right. In my 2020 Tacoma I replaced all my speakers, tweeters, added a sub, and added an amp. The door speakers I pulled out from the factory were a joke. They don't weigh anything at all....more toy like than a real speaker!! I was shocked. Now I ride around with great sound but would love to have this head unit....don't know if I love it almost $2k worth though lol.

Hey I just ordered one of these for my 2nd gen I was wondering how difficult the install was and how nicely it blended with the dash on the second gen because I noticed the bezel doesn’t really flush mount like this one I don’t think but was curious of any info or tips you could give

I’ve installed several head units in my past so install was difficult for me. YMMV. Install all connectors prior to breakdown and it’ll be just plug and play. As for the bezel, I didn’t use the included one. I end up buying a bezel made by Scorch to match the OEM texted bezel.

@@connerbusby8467 it’s been so long, but if I remember the backup camera only comes on when the truck is in reverse. I believe I hooked it up to the driverside reverse taillight to trigger the camera. As far as the steering controls, you have to hook up the module that attaches to the OBD2 port. Hope that helps. I tried looking for the Stinger off road install video, but it looks like it no longer exists on their website.

Chloe if you long press the mode button on your steering wheel it will pause whatever mode you are in on the head unit.

I just bought this for my 2022. 1. 4,300 cost to install and upgrade both tweeters, 4 speakers and add 50w amp and add a base unit with JL audio As this is a huge install I am having a professional install it. This is a lot of work. I can’t wait as the stock sound system sucks. 6 days and I will have it done. I will update this comment.

I installed this same unit on my ‘22 Taco about a month ago and it only took me about an hour. Is not hard at all if you follow TacomaBeast installe video. Save the $$. Also replacing the twitters and speakers is not difficult. Check the many youtube videos on it. I replace all speakers and twitters with Kickers and the combination with the Height “10 headunit, sound is super awesome.

I came to your video exclusively with the hope of seeing demonstration of how it’s the interaction with Google maps! Since the stock radio sucks!!! If you reinstall the stock radio later, will it need a code to unlock it? Someone just gave me their 2016 Tacoma stock radio and he had no idea if it needs a code to put it into a different vehicle. I know it's not the greatest radio, but it def looks better than my basic stock Honda radio. Thx. 😊

The Stinger units all feel like a stop gap solution for existing/late last gen vehicles to be updated to an almost next gen feature level like the Ford Lightning, Rivian, and similar. It's also priced as such! I feel the product is priced specifically for people who are not willing to wait and completely reinvest into a brand new full loadout (Suspension, tires, packout, etc.). I feel its priced way too high for someone looking to make a single to even 3/4 mod upgrade into a vehicle without the features. It's priced for someone who is already heavily invested in their buildout.

This is what holds me back too. I use my anytime front/rear switch all the time and don't want that to stop working.

I did gut everything form my anytime camera mod, except for the camera itself (which just is an RCA connector that plugs right into the unit). Now, I cannot access my front camera from a physical switch, but I can by going to my camera app on the Stinger itself. Hope this helps!

I was seriously excited about purchasing this product. Unfortunately, I found out that this radio does not come with an HD radio tuner. That was a deal breaker for me.
