I have four of these stands... they are my go too for flash shoe units and location work! Great video, thanks.

Right, that's good enough for me. I will just be using a ballhead and speedlite (with a Speedfire 2 attached to the upright pole) on mine. Thanks for the comprehensive review. I also like the fact you jumped straight in to the review. With some 'reviewers' you have to listen to war and peace before they actually get to the important stuff!

Great video. Instead of adding a bunch of random weights on it, you should have tested it in more practical ways. Ex, trying it with a big softbox and light, etc.

I picked one up. The seals on mine is aluminum so I'm keeping this one. May buy another one for now using it for pony one light.

Very useful video. If mister K&F is watching I would love something like this just a bit bigger. Let's say... 260/280, 100mm collapsed and a bit sturdy diameter. Im still going to buy one of the little ones

and the ability to adjust each leg in height individually makes this stand good in uneven terrain I guess. if you have to put it on a staircase as example

I got this some time ago. Id never put anything thats heavy on it because it was never meant for that. The benefits are its compactness and light weight. For stability I simply added ankle weights as needed. As a quick and simple solution for interviews with smaller lights I dont see how you can go wrong.
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 3 жыл бұрын
Definitely- I'd only test its weight to make sure that it can do more than it claims and feel assured there will be no problems under that limit. It's super compact lightweight and I love the low widespread leg span, like you said. Very useful for quick setups :)

Mine showed up today. I put the Godox SL60w on it + an 80cm octagonal softbox. Fell over. Couldn't extend it at all. Good light stand, just not for something like the Godox + softbox.
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 4 жыл бұрын
Hey, surprised to hear that actually. I've used nearly identical setups with it and no problem. Make sure you put the weight out over one of the legs and have the legs spread wide. If the weight is out over the open "V" space between the legs, it will likely fall over though- that placement is key just like with a C-Stand. Hope it helps

I have a few of these. They are fine for in-door use, but outside I wouldn't trust them. Too flimsy and wobbly. Maybe for a bare speedlite or a speedlite with a dome diffuser, but never a softbox (outside).

I have got a much cheaper stand, both in terms of price and in terms of quality, but it works... the strange thing about it, it has springs on the extension parts, so whenever I open the clip (like on yours) it jumps somewhat, feels funny...
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 4 жыл бұрын
Haha yeah, I have some of those -I think it's meant for shock absorption if you loosen it with weight on it by accident, but it's a bit strange. They definitely do the trick for a while, but I have had a lot of issues with the locks over the years.

@@mroblige1018 I don't think it's allowed here, besides would be wrong for me to send a link on a different site and not as Scot's affiliated link. Very helpful video, thanks. Do you think this would be strong enough to hold a light (Amaran 100d) and a lightdome (Ap Lightdome II)?
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I think it could manage but it's definitely not the best choice for that. It would be easy to tip if someone bumps it, and it's just a lot of stress on the stand because of the weight being out in front, not centered on top. Not sure how long the stand would hold up in that situation. Even a cheap off brand C-Stand would do better for that if you can get one.

Great thorough review! With a max height of 2m do you think this can work for shooting standing subject videos? Guessing a C stand that can reach 3m would be better suited? How did you light yourself at like 4:50 for example? Also liking the light spread, do you remember the set up, was it with a large soft box? Appreciate any feedback on this
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! I think it depends if you're talking about a light on it or a camera (wouldn't use a camera just because of the swaying motion that would be so easily introduced). With a light I'd definitely feel safer with a C Stand (even a cheap one) but if this is all you had or all you could bring with you since it's so compact, I think it could work. Just be more careful with it. Depends how heavy the light is too and how centered the weight is. A solid C Stand is a very good investment though... I have a few ranging from under $100 to about $400 and there's only minor differences. Maybe one will last 10 years before something breaks and one will last 30-40, but I honestly don't need it to last 30-40 years most of the time haha. They're all solid. Anyway, for the lighting setup I had an Aputure 120D II in the Light Dome II off to camera right (I actually have it hanging from the ceiling) as well as a Flolight Blade light 36" right overhead in front of me on low power to fill in the shadows a bit, plus a back light that I can't remember at the moment haha. I've changed little details in the setup since then but more or less that's what I'm using as my main lighting in this space. Let me know if that helps and feel free to ask any more questions! :)

Scott Dumas Scott Dumas thanks a lot for the thoughtful and insightful reply! It’s a big help. I’ll definitely be considering this light stand as an additional light weight quick mobile setup. Meanwhile I’ve found a relatively new light stand that I think I’ll give a try. Basically a c stand on wheels that looks promising. That should cover most my bases for lighting stands. Your lighting set up sounds and looks great! Here, it has a really nice soft and even light distribution. Thanks for sharing! Your reviews and insights help me better decide making equipment purchase decisions. Which is great since video gear expenses can really add up very quickly lol sometimes feels like it never stops, just when I think I’m finally all good.. nope, there’s something missing haha

Shakily, yes I think so, depending on the brand/weight of the softbox. If you sandbag it, I don't think it would be a problem unless you're in a windy location.

how would this work with a boom arm?
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 4 жыл бұрын
Depending on what's on the end of that boom arm. I wouldn't push it too much because I would not trust the center pole not to bend under much stress, but the wide footprint would make it fairly stable I imagine if the load is light.
