Wow, what an incredibly honest and detailed review! I really appreciate the effort and time you put into making this video. As a 6ft person, I know it can be challenging to find an affordable tripod that's suitable for my height when recording myself while standing. Your information is super practical and has been a huge help in making a decision. Thank you so much!

Curiously, I was precisely looking at this tripod on Amazon and it seemed to me that it could be a good alternative to the more expensive ones. Good to find your video giving your opinions. Thank you very much again Allan for taking the time to do your analysis and share it with us.

Nice thorough review. I bought the S211 several months ago and can’t tell much difference from your comments except that it costs a bit more. I use it with a D750 and the 14-24mm ( large heavy lens ) with little to no issue, but definitely agree with the hesitation to use it fully extended. I always hang a bag on the hook and the Miops remote shutter. I’m in my late 60’s and would only be able to use the upside option once if you get my drift, so never tried. Thanks for the video. Cheers.

Hi Lou! I also saw the S211 and it seemed a bit more robust than the S210. What is your opinion? If it is worth the price difference? Thanks a lot!

@@FranciscoLopez-Machado After posting I realized the model I have has the transverse Center column allowing you to take overhead shots, so I think it is definitely worth it if that’s a feature you need.

Tripod envy is second only to BIG lens envy in the world of nature photography. Reasonably priced tripods, even with a few problems, can hold up a camera as well as multi thousand dollar versions. Though, it would be nice if the manufacture supplied stick-on carbon fiber film to cover the harsh looking aluminum.

Looks like a great tripod for a M43 camera but I would only use it shortened on my FF Nikon to be safe.

I was thinking to myself, “All of my tripods over the years have been Gitzo or Really Right Stuff, all still with me, all still being used.” Gitzo tripods are in fact, “Guaranteed for life, plus reincarnations.” Then I remembered the Benbo. When no other tripod can support a camera in such an impossible situation out comes the Benbo. Only the British would come up with such a device. Speaking of British devices, I also have a Land Rover parked in the garage. “Parked” is the operative term currently. The Benbo gets more use.

Never owned a Land Rover, and couldn't get on with the used Benbo I found. But the new Gitzo travel tripod looks superb - very tempting!

@@AllanWallsPhotography Neither Land Rovers nor Benbos enjoy universal appeal. I acquired both about 25 years ago. The Benbo at a photo swap meet, late in the day as I made one last round to see if I might have missed something others had passed by. The seller was disposing of the Benbo for a friend, enraged when the tripod pinched his fingers. I also discovered a ballhead for the Benbo at another booth. We all drove home togehter in the Land Rover.

I bought that Gitso systematic and regretted it - Manufacturing faults made it useless. So its back to my Manfrotto tripod. The worst part of travel tripods apart from being too short is that they have horrible ball heads.

I just got a Victiv tripod, nicely designed, much like your K & F. But it also has the same problem with the thumb screw on the plate, it being too long for the Nikon cameras. Not tried it on my Canon. Nice fair review. I don't like these camera plates though. I just droped my Nikon over a sea wall. My lens cap on a 11mm Tokina saved the camera. It smashed to bits, which has successfully been superglued back to useful service.

Hi Steve, talk about coincidence! I dropped my Tokina 11mm while making a video yesterday. No damage. That lens is built like a tank. By the way, the camera plate won't fit on GoPro accessories either.

@@AllanWallsPhotography Hi Allan, I nearly grabbed my grinder to shorten the screw, but decided my wife wouldn't appreciate me shortening my finger after our friend just about lost his hand with a grinder. Sounds like your lens came of better than mine. I can hear something rattling about inside the lens and it makes a grinding noise now, but fully functional. No tears - although I was disappointed - but this is the price of the hobby. My friend in the 70's was a news paper photographer. He had to climb onto a collapsed pier (Iron - an I.K Brunel design) and as he tried getting off the boat onto a ladder for the pier, his lens hit the pier. He sent it off to get repaired. Nikon charged him almost as much as the lens cost in the first place. So, like yourself, I quite appreciate my Tokina lenses. Wide angle lenses are also good to get second hand. I expected to get a scratch on the lens & then console myself that it wouldn't matter much, as wides seem to ignore front lens scratches and favour the object they are focused on. It was good to see you out in the bush. I liked the bit about getting down on your knees and not being able to get up. I lay down on beaches to get low shoreline shots and then struggle to get up.

If i was given this tripod I would hand it straight back.Centre column IE: The blur maker.There are much better alternatives out there.Spend more to get more.
@AllanWallsPhotography
@AllanWallsPhotography 2 жыл бұрын
Right, and I make it clear that The center column needs to stay down. This is true of any/all lightweight travel tripods, which pretty much all come with a center column.
