In this video we are taking a drive from Ardalstangen to Rjukan via the worlds longest road tunnel and one of the worlds longest single span bridges. We're also visiting a couple of hydropower museums, one of which is a UNESCO World Heritage Industrial site.

Pelton wheels work best with a high head and lower flow rate, but in a more narrow range. Francis is kind of in the middle but usually need a higher flow rate (depending on head). Francis work in pretty big range of head and flow rates so they are the most common these days. Then for very low head and lots of water, like in big rivers, you would use a Kaplan based turbine. Pelton is still used in new small scale river power stations (

Thanks :) Good pronunciation by the way. Watched a podcast the other day, one of the hosts attempted to pronounce 'Hardangervidda' .. This was the best he could come up with: Hard Danger Vida ('vida' in Spanish='life', he did that on purpose) HARD DANGER LIFE ... hahh, brilliant ..🤣

The thing that scared me in that long tunnel was the way the locals totally ignored the speed limit.

I only saw slow busses going under the speed limit, and cars trying to overtake out of frustration. Excessive speed wasn't something that I observed. Apparently there are speed cameras in the tunnel, normally there's a sign a few hundred metres ahead of each camera warning you of their presence but I didn't see any such signs in the tunnel, or cameras. In Norway I generally find that I'm the slowest person on the road. They are very low speed limits compared to other countries. Despite the threat of needing to take out a 2nd mortgage to pay a speeding fine, it doesn't seem to deter Norwegians at first glance, but they do have lower road fatalities compared to Scotland despite more hazardous roads and similar populations.
