Correction to a point in this video that took me a while to get around to. Better late than never On picking if your campaign is Full Contact or League combat only: This was only a suggestion as it helped me learn the game initially. The recommendation is to do a mixture of the two as PTU was designed with that as the intended default. If anyone has any other tips for play feel free to share as learning this system is not an easy one.

A small correction: the owner of the Mega Doc and creator of the Homebrew Gen 7 and 8 Dex is DataNinja. I did not mean to leave their name out of the video.

Main tip for designing boss encounters or intended tough fights when you're going full contact. Don't be shy about making the boss Pokémon way way higher level. The way things are designed, a trio of level 5 trainers and their Pokemon will wipe a lone level 70 Pokemon in like 2 rounds, and they even acknowledged this in the rulebook. Do your absolute damndest to prevent your players from being able to gang up on your boss. Have add-ons, have multiple healthbars, have unique abilities and moves. Trust me, the players can handle it.

This is the sort of guide I needed. I have trouble trying to Quick Stat and this helped clear it up Edit: I started with 5 people as a newbie GM, now it's narrowed down to 1 due to the group also having their own campaigns they were doing but they might slowly merge back in down the line. Last session a player ran into a Shiny Mudkip which was unexpected

I'm currently working on a game with a custom pokemon region based on the scandenavia region. This video along with the players guide helped out alot to get a quick understanding of the rules and I can't thank you enough for it. Now then, back to making stats for the regional forms.

These videos are making me want to run PTU again. I hope you'll get around to making a pokemon contest video, because I could never make those fun.

they arent very fun outside of maybe a one time thing cause there is a very clear perfect way of doing it and its very simple and monotone the only way i could see it being fun is if both ypu and your group really like descriptively explaining actions and listening to the others doing that

Oh it's a very rules heavy system indeed. Took me a while to get even a comfortable grasp of the basics. But it gets fun as you start to understand more. I'm still having a blast with the game.

Rifts is a fantastic tabletop game that shows you that not every class combination needs to be completely viable at all times inside a game. A talented game Master should be able to swap back and forth between full contact and league-based combat fairly easily. You should make a combat oriented trainer with the expectation that you will not be the best league trainer. I don't agree with the idea of, all or nothing. That just doesn't make sense when trying to build a world.

I believe I answered a similar comment a while back but essentially that was an error on my part. I intended much of this advice for new GMs or people learning the system so as not to become overwhelmed as PTU is very rules heavy. I could have worded it much better then. As this seems to be the more prominent feedback for the vid I'll get a pinned comment to clear up that section.

Question: If a non-combat encounter is really important to the story (or any encounter for that matter that’s non-combat) do the Pokémon get any EXP?
@sajochi
@sajochi Жыл бұрын
Typically no, but as a GM you can decide what is an appropriate reward for encounters. Some games tie Pokemon growth directly to trainer growth to try and maintain the "Pokemon level = 2x trainer level" balance

If you insist on having full builds for npcs then make generic stat blocks for trainer classes found in the games instead of each individual trainer. Like a Pokekid would be 2 levels of Hobbyist and a Pokemaniac would have 5 levels of Hobyest. Some classes like the Hiker you could have 2 levels of Survivalist and 3 of Stat Ace (Defense). You can use these in all of your campaigns for generic characters alongside pokemon made with online generators. If an npc actually becomes important copy the information to a different sheet so you can have them branch out and become more unique later as the story progresses and you inevitably have to level them up.
