I'm no welder and I have absolutely no intention of becoming a professional at it. But occasionally I have to weld something around the shop. I know a lot of you pros are giving him hell, but for us folks that just need something stuck together from time to time, I find it helpful.

@@LostenFree well if you're in a pinch (I'm assuming would be the case if you're buying your oil from a gas station)a slight variance in viscosity won't hurt anything in the short term. The wrong oil is sometimes better than no oil at all.

I didn't realize the reason they're using 6013 all the time is because that's all that's available. Welding thick to thin you always put the force of your arc on the thicker piece.

Too much bogus criticism in the comments. These videos are meant for people who have a welder around and want to repair their fence door or whatever they need to do to fix stuff like that. I weld for quite some time, definitely not a pro, but the reason that got me into welding was not the desire to become a professional welder, just fix things, and that interest got me involved more in it. I started with tacks and learnt how to run a bead, use different electrodes, weld on thinner material etc, got proper equipment, and it involved into a hobby. I'm a mechanic and it's the same way if i criticize people who change their oil on their own saying they are are not mechanics, not only it's non sensical but also defeats the whole purpose of the reason they do it, even if it's for cheap or they want to get their hands dirty and get into stuff to learn more.

There's a difference in doing it wrong, and trying to instruct people how to do it wrong. The difference is what is at stake if it fails, could it injure someone or even worse kill someone. That weld is going to break with very little stress, would you put your kids under something like that.

I sucked at sports, so @13 I worked in a garage turning wrenches. But that was 40 years ago. One thing I never could do was stick weld? Gas weld ,braze and Tig and mig. I always had a hard time getting started cause the glass was dark. Someday I'll try again

lol you have massive undercut on the top of that weld cuz you would rather change your position than turn the heat down further

I don't know anything about welding. Why is he using the technique of "spotting" one touch at a time, as opposed to just pulling in a straight line without stopping?
@AGMertzy
@AGMertzy 7 ай бұрын
He has the current on his machine set too high, which in turn causes too much heat to flow into the workpiece. The force of his welding arc also goes up with that, so it blows holes through the thinner metal tubing instead of welding it. He also did not direct his arc more into the thick piece of steel rod. The rod can absorb more of the heat without blowing out. He could have turned the amperage down, which would have lowered his heat input and slightly lowered the arc force. He then most likely could have welded the joint in a single pass, pulling in a straight line without stopping as you said. Another technique he could have used if he didn't want to lower his amperage, is a motion called whipping. You whip the tip of the rod back and forth in a small controlled pattern without ever lifting the rod. Generally whipping is just straight back and forth in a line. You weld a little bit, whip back about half the length of your weld pool, slowly drag it out as you weld another little motion, whip it back again, drag it out. When you whip back, you are letting the front edge of the weld pool cool down slightly, and when you go forward you are letting the back end cool. It's a method of controlling the heat, so you don't blow through. But whatever you do, you don't want to do a row of "tacks" like this guy did, and then weld over it. The tacks will have a thing called slag inclusions in them. Slag is that layer that he chipped off with the chipping hammer. It will be completely enveloped in metal, and it will cause a serious weak spot in the joint.

@@AGMertzyeso mismo estaba pensando entonces eso mismo se ouede hacer tirar de corrido reduciendo amperaje nove
@AGMertzy
@AGMertzy 6 ай бұрын
@@tonirodriguez8931Yep, pretty much. I will say there are some scenarios where you might need to run higher amps. For example, maybe you only have a rod with you that needs higher amperage to be able to strike and hold a stable arc. If that's the case, set the amps to as low as possible within the capabilities of that particular rod, start welding, and find the whip tempo that keeps the weld pool the right temperature.

I don't understand why he chamfered the original tack To me, it weakened the complete structure of the weld, then he turned around and removed the slag on the joint, re-applied the bond, then struck it again...?🤷

It's not necessary that way. You can weld continuously if you send the arc against the bar... The solid size bar can resist the arc
