How does the Internet really work? This video lets you ride shotgun with a packet of data-one of trillions involved in the trillions of Internet interactions that happen every second. I personally like the beauty of the fact that, cabling innovations aside, the more mini networks that are built, the more routes the packets have available to them, and the faster the packets reach their destinations.

How are the satellites in space involved? Are they an alternative to the cables under the ocean?

These under sea cables don't need satellites to work. Satellites don't have that much data capacity. There are numerous cables along the same route, so even if some are broken, the data is routed through the others. Speeds will decrease if some major cables are broken. There are no under sea cables to Antarctica. So, only satellite communication is possible there. Satellites are also needed for GPS, DTH, weather forecast, mapping...

Generally it is transferred via my father Andrew Johnson 202 gsm base station transceivers (cell towers) globally the 5g network can uplink at 5g per sec it is transferred from your mobile or cellular modulation device too satellite via 2 key algorithms and the base station handover protocol the bsic algorithm for allocating a cell in a designated cell area and the gpsr algorithm that uplinks to satellite downlink to international base station

Satellites would cause too much interference and objects would get in the way, or the shear curvature of the earth would get in the way. However say your on a cellphone, the servers will send the data to cell towers which then beam the connection to your cellphone like a satellite, but is all wired and laser or glass connection wires before it does that
