Just a first look at this right goodie of a new hammock by Dutch.
I have not had it out in the field but have napped in it and am trying all the configurations.
Also just got my Beetle Bug suspension so it is not in the video. The Beetle Bug is awesome. Yes, I typed Awesome.
The pack hooks along the side to hook in your UQ suspension are quickly becoming my favorite feature. Even if you don't use the shock cord pullouts...the UQ suspension comes up over the end of your TQ and mades a footbox. Love that.
All secure and snug as a lizard in sector seven.
Shug
First off I am launching it on Kickstarter. Why Kickstarter? I already know there will be some critics and some people don't like crowd funding and I certainly don't want to make that the topic of discussion on here. I have had good and bad experiences on Kickstarter and I hopefully will be able to alleviate any fears by being a reputable vendor and someone who will follow through and not drag out promises for months. I have two goals in mind with Kickstarter, first one is be able to stock all the different components so you can order this hammock and all its components and they will ship out immediately. That has been my business model all along and I want to keep with that tradition. However I want you to be able to buy a blue Hexon 1.0 body and a Dark Olive ARGON 90 top cover and have it ship within 24 hours. This hammocks enables that to happen. Also you can buy a Body now, get the bugnet when the bugs come out, and if you decide this winter to brave the cold, you can get the top cover and it will fit. That is one of the beauties of this system that is based on the patent pending zipper. You can have a body with a net and a top cover, but your friend wants to hang so all you have to do is buy another body. All the components will be interchangeable. In order to do that I need to stock and overwhelming amount of product. This will be good for everyone in the long run and mass producing these will make them more affordable.
So what does the Chameleon do...
I wanted to make it completely modular. You can buy a body today and a top cover next winter and it will fit. I put a lot of thought into how to accessorize it later so it can be the one hammock that will work in every circumstances. There will be organizers, bottle holders, and peak lofts. You can get grey body today and and blue top cover because you are a Dallas Cowboy fan and if you decide next year you are a Raiders fan, you can replace the top with a black top. You can buy as little as you need today and expand it as your needs change.
Adapts to your environment. They way the top flips over you don't have a dedicated direction that you have to lay. This is really important if you want two hammocks side by side. You can go without a top to be light, take a bugnet, or if the weather is cold take a top cover. You can have a light weight body for hiking and a heavy duty one for car camping that use the same tops. Everything is modular so you can assemble just what you need for the kind of hammock camping experience you want.
Patent pending Beetle Buckles- I wanted a new buckle system for this hammock. One that is easy to use and would work with a spreader bar. It is designed much like the cinch bug suspension but it is much easier to operate and receives a spreader bar. If you want to hang two hammocks side by side on the same trees all you have to do is add a spreader bar. If you get mad at each other during a hike, then the hammocks will work fine independently. Try to be the one that packs the tarp.
There are many more features of this hammock, we put together a good vid to explain them for you. We have two patents on the components of this hammock .The Kickstarter page had a great deal of information.
Thank you everybody for your support, now and over the years. This has gone from being a hobby, to a passion, to a business and I have so many of you to thank.
The first 100 backers will get their hammocks sent out by March 1st!

Such a well-built hammock, couldn't be happier with it. Bug net is so good, breaths well and the zippers are like butter. Great fabric and the ridge line is at the perfect length for me. All the bells and whistles without all the weight. The new suspension is great too, easy and light enough might go whoopie sling for weight savings in the future. I picked up an HG Econ 30 degree Phonix UQ and matching TQ from the ginger wizard of the down. It is like they were made for one another. Great system for any trail with trees. All fits nicely into my new OHM 2.0..... Your influence is REAL Shug....

Shug, thanks for another great video. Is there anyway you could compare this to The Dream Hammock Raven released last fall? They seem very similar. I'm in the market for a new Hammock 6'4 270lbs and I saw your suggestion above. Randy at DH mentioned he would suggest a different hammock than his Raven for my size to get the flattest lay. He suggested a Sparrow. I do like the option of a bug net. Thanks and woo buddy!

I like this system, and the fact it comes in a two person version so you can hang 2 hammocks from the same trees. On a different note, I was wondering how you felt about the news that after 130 years the Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus is folding their tents for good?
@shugemery

We are still a bit stunned...but not surprised. It comes down to dollars. The animal rights people are relentless. I approached a few the protested Ringling to speak of my experience. They had no interest in hearing what I had to say. They seemed like deeply angry people looking for a cause.

Thinking about hammocks, and the chameleon in particular. I’ve a couple questions. .Do you think the hex 1.0 will support my 225lbs.? What do you do to keep your gear dry when you’re nesting in inclement weather. As a tenter myself, I do appreciate the protection a vestibule provides for my gear. The tarp setups I see don’t look like they’d compare for protection of a stored pack, etc. Mahalo for all the videos. 🤙🏽

Hey Shug, big fan of the channel, tons of helpful reviews and info that I've incorporated as I've evolved with my different systems. So appreciate it! Couple questions I was hoping you could help me out with- first, when you use your under quilt, do you also use a blow up sleeping pad or is that just temperature dependent? If so, roughly what temp? I'm really excited about purchasing Dutchware's new system, but at 6'6" and roughly 260 pounds, I'm wondering if you think I'd fit comfortably diagonally and also what's the lightest fabric weight I could get away with? Thanks for any help!

Lots of my Tribe members now out of work. We are grieving here. My life changed forever by working on that show. I am who I am because of my Ringling life. It gets on you strong. I have opinions about it all that I would discuss around a fire. Those opinions I'll keep off of here. Here are some of my photos from those Glory Daze....flic.kr/s/aHsjF5YWzY As to the animal issues. It is complicated. I saw good and bad but mainly good. I rode an elephant that had killed before. She loved me and I her. she killed a cruel night animal keeper who beat them as he got drunk. They have a way of taking care of their own. She loved performing and I rode her everyday. She would quiver in anticipation of the appluase. Sadly, not all animals get to be free. Not do people. What is next? No pets? Guide dogs? No recue animals? No Police Canine units? We all have to go Vegan? The animals got watered, fed and cleaned. Us clowns did not! Seems that we live in a We Society. Not an I or a Me but a We. We don't like what you represent so We will spend our energy to stop what You do and what We do not do. Shug Roid the Clown Ringling Red Unit 1980-82 Clown College Class of 1979

There will always be something better though, doesn't have to be in the u.s.

Hey Shug! I’m wanting to get a chameleon for myself and I notice that you’ve said you’re 6’ y’all. So am I so I was wondering if you have any issues with shoulder squeeze. Do you have a regular or a wide hammock? Thoughts please and thank you sir! Maybe you could do a video on the differences in wide and regular?
@shugemery
@shugemery 5 жыл бұрын
Mine is regular width and I have no problem with shoulder squeeze. None of my hammocks are wide. Most about 60"s.

All that info is on the dutchware website. Regular or wide has nothing to do with your weight. Fabric choices do..... Chameleon Body Fabric Choices. (To see the current fabric color swatches please click on the fabric choice below.)Hexon 1.0 - 200 pound weight rating Hexon 1.6 - 350 pound weight rating Hexon 2.4 - 400+ pound weight rating Argon 1.6 - 300 pound weight rating Multicam 1.5 - 275 pound weight rating Multicam 1.9 - 325 pound weight rating TrueTimber - 325 pound weight rating

Calf ridge...🤔 I have that with my hammock, just figured it was one of those 'complicated' things I didn't have quite right. Guess I'm not the only one!🤗 so I'll ask, is there? Something I'm not doing quite right? Yup, I have, right down to the 'Hammock Calculator' even have the App😮 Is that to complicated??😃 But I find the 'sweet spot' and just hang away.

Looks like a copy of the Dream Hammock Sparrow. Not saying I don't like it, just saying Randy did it first. And, compared to my halfwit, with better construction quality. But then again, Randy refuses to do 1.0 ripstop anymore, so maybe I'll pick one of these up.

I thought $98 was too pricy for the Half Wit when cheap hammocks that work just as well can be bought for $30. The Half Wit is still on my wish list though. Didn't even check to see how much the Chameleon weighs since it's so out of the realm of affordable. I'm sure all the cool features are worth the price but not the weight.
