Can the logic of corporate finance be applied to the individual? Louis Kelso believed it could. In 1975, 60 Minutes profiled the economist who argued employees should own a stake in the company for which they work.
"60 Minutes" is the most successful television broadcast in history. Offering hard-hitting investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news, the broadcast began in 1968 and is still a hit, over 50 seasons later, regularly making Nielsen's Top 10.

The attraction to equity holders is to exploit a tax benefit and improve image in the eyes of the public. However there are significant cons, including giving employees voting rights. There are other tax structures which offer similar benefits without the downside of empowering your workforce. I don’t agree with the morality of what I wrote, but that’s the way it is

Instead, the move was to depreciate the value of the dollar to make American manufacturing easier to export. ...Which did not have the longer-term desired effect; the new normal negatively impacted the purchasing power of the US dollar.

Forgive my ignorance, but aren’t ESOPs described here the same thing as ESPPs or RSUs used commonly today?

They have different tax rules

ESOPs are tax deductible for employers and tax deferred for employees with similar distribution rules to a 401k or IRA. ESPP can be sold anytime and subject to ordinary income tax and capital gains tax.
