Circling to use fuel is not the same as dumping fuel. Dumping fuel involves opening valves that drain or pump fuel out into the air. Of course that’s not what they do when there’s a fire.

5:99 fuel dumping refers to the action of removing fuel through a specialized nozzle close to the tips of the wings, not circling the airport to burn fuel. The Boeing 777 has these nozzles that can expel the fuel without burning it.

Being a retired Air Force Aircrew Member, I can see the unnessisary hype in this story. Having a technical advisor assist in the writing of these videos would add credibility. When did the pilots try to extinguish the fire after shutting the engine down? There is a system for that. Normally, the pilots would concider quickly dumping fuel to bring the plane down to a safe landing weight, and avoid the other related problems. But if an engine fire can't be extinguished, the fuel dump port locations may have been too close, but mentioning this would add to the intrest. When did the second engine catch fire as shown in the video? A Boeing 777 has two engines, but the video keeps switching back & forth to a four engine plane. The nose gear does not have brakes, as to keep steering control on a wet runway during landing, so why does the video show the nose wheels on fire?

Hats off to the pilots for a great and safe landing!! But normally these days if an engine catches on fire or fails the pilots set off the extinguisher which will completely put out the fire and wont allow that engine to restart.

Flight 1549 is still my favorite plane landing ever!!

Fuel Dumping is not flying around in circles at low altitude. It is done at high altitude and fuel is dumped by spraying it out of the back of the wing. Otherwise the flight would be circling around the airport for the whole duration of the scheduled flight. Also there are fire extinguishers inside the engines and the pilots can cut off the fuel from the left tank and only dump it and not burn it. They would have brought the aircraft down below 10,000 feet where the air pressure is below 10.1PSI and they would turn off the PACKs which would extinguish the fire. (I am an aviation geek)

Nigerian Airlines/Nationair 2120 caught fire after under inflated tires popped and the bare wheels scraped against the ground and caught on fire, which spread into the plane when they raised the gear. The plane almost landed but collapsed mid-air just 2 miles short of the runway after opening the gear bay doors.

My Flight from bohol (PHILIPPINES) was a 1 hour flight, Good food and comfortable seats... When suddenly, Before landing... The captain said “WE HAVE A TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY, OUR LANDING GEARS DIDNT GO DOWN” So I started to fasten my seatbelts even when the seatbelt sign isnt on, and finally... The landing gear was fixed, So we had an emergency landing in our destination, And my airline was CEBU PACIFIC
