FYI Hammer Arm lowers the user's speed, not the opponent's, which is why you were still slower than Samurott.

Quick tips for black 2: -grind on the ranch for the first gym as they’re higher level -audinos are better for grinding since they give more exp and HP EVs -The movie goes faster if you lose the battle (use ice punch on pawniard) This got a lot of traction so here’s another tip, though I’m not sure it works as its been a long time since i’ve played gen 5 -if you lose the movie battle, you don’t need to watch it but again, i don’t remember if this works

The Mammoth’s name from Ice Age is Manny, or Manfred, not Mammoth. Also, there is an Ice Age special called A Mammoth Christmas, so technically it does count towards the theme. Either way, Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you MDB!

Ok hear me out: the next time you do a run in this version you should try solo Beldum. In any other game it would be basically impossible, but since there are tutors available you can teach Beldum iron head and zen headbutt, making it slightly more possible to actually beat the game!

You can do this in HG/SS too, the pokewalker Beldum comes with Zen Headbutt and Iron Head from the get-go

About the seasons in B2 and W2. The season changes after every month, so a new in game season starts with the beginning of a new month. This basically allows three in game years in just one real life year. You can't change what season is on which month. Basically, March will always be Fall and December will always be Winter in those games.

I suggest a Red/Blue run with only Magmar. If you look at its move list you’ll understand why. If you want throw in no Tms for added challenge I’m pretty sure magmar would have one of the highest base stat totals for a mon in a single run that you’ve done so far.

19:44 You get a free Zoura if you follow the Ex-Team Plasma grunt. Also, a lot of things, like locations and puzzles, are different between Black 2 and White 2. Reversal Mountian in White 2, for instance, is an active volcano with real lava and different pathways.

i'm glad you enjoyed this game! gen 5, despite the grinding, is one of my favorites to do challenges in. granted, i don't have a time limit, so that might be why haha. when i had more free time in college, i was able to do so many challenges...and i miss that. it sucks getting older and not being able to do side projects, so i totally feel you on that. also, going forward, you gotta do what you gotta do! remember to take care of yourself first and foremost. merry late christmas and happy new year! looking forward to what 2022 will bring for you!

The earliest available leftovers could possibly be the ones in Sword and Shield. They're in the wild area, first zone which is accessible as soon as you finish exploring the tutorial! :)

@@guineapork6830 The area where the leftovers are located can already be accessed without having any gym badges. The Pokemon in there aren't catchable yet because they are all still too strong for someone without badges but at least the leftovers can be collected.

You know in the end I'm just happy for you. I've watched, for longer than I ever realized and before I even had an account on KZfaq, and I'm just glad you finally broke through and had this level of success. And I just find it funny that twice I lost your channel when I didn't have an account and both times I found it again it was Pokemon content that brought me back. Pokémon challenge: gen 1, 1 Pokédex challenge. Finish the game with a Pokédex of 1. Likitung, Krabby and Kingler can learn all three required HMs (strength, surf and cut).

I feel like that’s just a normal solo run without HM slaves. Tho i do remember seeing another youtube do a hoenn (emerald maybe?) run with only mudkip and no HM slaves. Had no idea about your struggles, but I think that it is a testament to your work ethic that you never used them as a crutch to our audience, you just kept grinding on consistent content. These sort of off-beat playthroughs by MDB are really my absolute favorites. Dude's sense of humor catches me off guard in the best way, and the looser play style these runs allow leans into that. It sort of gives the videos a kind of... "improvisational" vibe? It's so good. It's also just great to see him use speed up! MDB spends so much time on these videos, so I'm happy whenever he makes it a little easier on himself. :')

I very much adore the Gen 5 games, so seeing a Christmas Special themed around it is fantastic. I enjoy the other videos, especially the Mario Party/playthroughs with Whattageek and GooseIT. So personally I say go for it. If you go from 3 to 2 challenge videos of month, and do more playthroughs, all the more power to you.

Gen 5 (both games) are the peak of Pokemon. Seriously, give us some solid HD remakes of these without the dumbass chibi art, and I'd buy it in a second. Also, MDB @10:00 the trainers in Gen 5 are 16-17. They intentionally made them older due to the fact that the fanbase was aging as well.

10:05 actually something interesting I learned recently, the 10 years old thing is just from the anime. The games don't really give you an age except generally a child. Though the black and white characters seem older than before. They look 16 to me.

They actually do give ages. The anime says 10 is the minimum age for the Kanto league, Alola says 11 is the minimum. Generally the characters are their generation +10. Red is 11, Ethan is 12, Brenden/May is 13, Dawn/Lucas are 14, all Unova are 15, Calem/Selene are 16. Alola protags are 11 and SwSh are 16

Both of gen 5 and 6 characters are 16. Bianca (black), Hugh (black 2) were all 16 when they started their journey

Pretty on-brand that the Christmas video, with Christmas being the holiday associated with warmth, ends on an incredibly wholesome note. That earnestness (I think that correctly describes it?) at the end of the video perfectly highlights why this channel has become a personal favorite of mine for streamers, just taking the time to discuss the pleasant and seasonally relevant thoughts going through the mind with an honesty and heartfelt-ness that most wouldn't approach their channel with. Also nice to see a Black 2 challenge. As much as gen 5 challenges are such a pain, BW2 are my favorite Pokemon games, and hearing MDB offer it its worthy praises warms my cockles (and shows up those commenters who insist that he hates gen 5 just because he points out how not designed for challenge runs they are). Merry Christmas.

Can you beat Pokémon Sapphire with only a Luvdisc? Sapphire will probably be harder than Ruby, since you wil be battling team Aqua over team Magma.

Oof... This sounds tough or super grindy. I did a Wingul only run of Omega Ruby. It was tough. I think I beat it finally at like level 92. On a real 2ds so it took forever. I did have the rest of my team filled with leveled linoones with pickup so I could get a bunch of rare candy. I think I grinded until lvl 80 and dumped my 10 candies with a couple in reserve just in case I needed them.

I don't super mind the sameyness of these challenges, I use them to get to sleep because they're interesting enough to hold attention while half asleep, but I don't feel like I've missed much if I miss a minute or two. Really helpful on a year like this one where I've moved several times and can't keep my mind off awful things

Next time you do a gen 5 run. i would reccomend grinding on audinos, you get a whole lot more exp. (audinos = shaking grass)

thanks for this challenge, I especially liked the speech at the end. As a let's player (I did daily videos for a year before taking a break this december) myself, you are a great inspiration for me. Thank you for all of your videos, they are amazing. I'm also happy to hear that you'll hopefully be doing more side-projects. The pokemon challenges are good, but my favorite videos on the channel have always been the let's plays.

Man, this video made me happy. The challenge run itself was fun, with cool pokemon variety I rarely see, and hearing that you actually really enjoyed White 2 was really awesome, because I really liked it too and it's cool seeing people like stuff you like. The ending rambling was all wholesome stuff I've heard before, but it always inspires me and makes me feel good hearing about how dedicated you are, and how all of this has been able to make you actually have a stable living to support yourself and your family. You saying that's its gotten to be pretty stable is really awesome too. I love watching you because your videos are always just, really fun and I'm glad you've been able to keep doing it, and keep enjoying it.
