An excellent transformation with an excellent commentary. The video from the camera's look good. No need to spend to get good results. You're there.

Thanks Ross. I sometimes forget that when I am editing I am looking at the footage in a lower resolution (so my computer can handle the load), and then I render it back out into high definition as it was when it was originally recorded. The footage I was looking at while doing the narration was very poor on that camera compared to how it rendered afterwards. I can see small differences in the final video, but it isn't as bad as it looked in a lower definition while editing. I think that a lot of the exposure changes I made to the camera 1 footage made it look better though. I'm still going to do a bit of testing before the next watch is done, but I'm glad that it wasn't as bad in the end as I thought it was going to be. Thanks as always for your support. It's always great to hear from you.

Your videos and commentary are EXCELLENT. I would rather watch these than lots of TV shows. Entertaining and inciteful - I feel If I could take a watch apart w/o damage, given the right tools. Cleaning, reassembly, lube, and knowing what is worn and needs replacing/reworking is genius.

Thanks a bunch. I am my own worst critic I suppose, but after staring at this footage for hours on end during editing I can see differences. OCD can be a curse sometimes! I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and yes, it's a great watch cleaning machine. I'm so glad to have it back. The heater quit working on it and I had to send it across the US to get it serviced. I asked them if they could just send me the part and I'd repair it myself, but they couldn't do that. It took a few weeks before the part could ship out of Germany, and another week or two to get through US customs before they finally got it. Once the part was received they got the repair done quickly and got it shipped back to me. It's back home where it belongs now! Reply

I've used a ball from a medium Bic ball point pen and a cut down strap spring for the click ball in a 7002 divers. works perfectly
@WeekendWatchRepair
@WeekendWatchRepair 4 ай бұрын
Yes, those are the same size and work great as well. One thing to be aware of when doing that is most ball point pens have a tungsten carbide ball. If used for the bezel click ball, it is much harder than the steel bezel and can induce much more wear over time compared to a regular steel ball bearing. That being said, I've done the same because I didn't want to wait on an order of ball bearings to be delivered! It worked great. I did eventually swap it out because the bezel on the other watch (not the one in the video) was original and I didn't want to wear it out (although I hardly ever actually use the rotating bezel for anything!).

Just subscribed. I love the 7002 diver. I found three at a church sale. Two had rusted out movements, and the third was still running well. I just wish the 7002 had a 3.8 case, then a NH movement would work as a replacement. I learned a lot just watching your rebuild. Thanks.

I have been watching some of the other guys and ran across your vids. Really enjoying them! Nit many of the others I have seen have been doing the Seiko movements. When you are finished with these watches, do you sell them as well??
@WeekendWatchRepair
@WeekendWatchRepair 5 ай бұрын
Thank you Scott. I'm glad you are enjoying the videos. Regarding the Seiko's, I'd say 80% of the watches on the channel are my own. The rest come from locally from friends, etc. I'm a vintage Seiko enthusiast, thus the volume of Seikos on the channel, lol. Regarding selling watches from the channel, I've sold some of them (mainly locally), but really only do so to fund other projects for the channel. It's sort of a revolving door at this point, one goes out and another comes in! Some people have suggested putting them on eBay. My intent was never to use this channel as a way to promote the selling of any watches. That being said I have sold a couple of watches on eBay (before this channel started). I do not have a long history of seller feedback, and eBay held the funds of those watches for nearly 3 weeks before releasing them. For me at least, it was just too much hassle after the seller fees and delays than it was worth. That's why I've just post them locally when I decide to sell one. Maybe that will change in the future, but for now it's just been the route with the least amount of hassle,

I've put together watches like that before. Maybe not that bad but a collection of parts that I thought would work together and then.... something just doesn't work. They're fun and when I eventually work out what I want on it I'm usually happy with the result. Those hands though. Oh lord.

It’s amazing that the Elma needed repair. I’ve been looking into one and it seems a ton of YT videos I come across, there is some kind of issue with them whether it be breakage during shipping, a manufacturing issue, or just a function issue. The cost is boggling for the errors. I’ve just decided I’ll try my luck with a vintage L&R due to what I’ve heard.

I don't think 🤔 that's a Frankenwatch. It looks 👌 like a normal Seiko. To me, it isn't ugly. I REALLY like your one hour plus ➕️ videos 📹. Also, don't worry about the small 😉 amount of radium on the watch dial, or the hands. I don't find it 😕 to cause cancer or radiation. At least, it isn't significant. Your friend, Jeff.

Not a frankenwatch! This was a precisely modded watch from a very demanding and really well informed professional, probably diver (or less likely an aircraft pilot)! You transformed a pro tool-watch to an everyday ladies watch (sorry if that seems harsh but it's the reality). It is very well known to professional divers that the black dial combined with white hands is the easiest to focus instantly when in difficult conditions, whether it is poor lighting or biological reasons (fatigue or poor eyesight). This is "old" knowledge, and this is why the Radiomir Panerai watch for the Italian army in WWII had exactly this setup. As for the yellow smooth clickless bezel, it would indicate probably the diver's decision for timing the remaining gas and should be clickless in order to do it wearing gloves while underwater. That's why I incline to the diver rather to the pilot. This watch was timing the remaining gas, and someone decided to use a Seiko to bet his life on. As for the quality of your restoration (excluding the equivocal transformation): superb as always, carry on!
@WeekendWatchRepair
@WeekendWatchRepair 5 ай бұрын
You may be right, but it was still ugly, haha! I'm not sure a diver would've used a leather strap though, and the bezel wasn't click-less, it was just broken. Whatever the case may have been, I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. I appreciate your detailed comment.

48:34 If my experience with modern trackball mice is anything to go by, it's better to lubricate the moving piece. This as when only lubricating a contact point, it will quickly get rubbed clean. Perhaps the difference of a single axis of movement over the two of the ball makes the difference of it working, perhaps not. While this is a weird comparison, with trackballs you are very well-aware of it's state of lubrication while using the device.

Can IPA be used as a substitute for One Dip? I'm sure I'm get OD soon, but in the meantime I'm just trying to use what I have. I'm so thrilled I got past that first service hurdle! Now I'm looking at the watches I bought for practice and I say "I'll be back, stick around. You're next." as opposed to "I'm too scared I'll screw up." Thanks Adam!
@WeekendWatchRepair
@WeekendWatchRepair 4 ай бұрын
Not entirely. IPA can dissolve shellac, which is what your pallet stones and impulse jewel are attached with. One-Dip is trichloroethylene (with a few additional additives) and will not damage shellac. It is an excellent cleaner. A quick wash in IPA probably don't do much to the shellac, but over time it will dissolve it. One-Dip, Bergeon B-Dip, or other solutions will work well.

Well after coming across miniature novelties, Drum Clock-Watches and Nuremberg eggs, then an hour glass I'm wondering if it's the mechanisms or the Idea of time. I am a strange one and stuck in a world of what is good and what is bad and what will exist in the future. Time is just and idea to me, past events can be labeled as 'seemed like just yesterday' the day can go by quickly or slowly, and the future is unknown. So I'm not a big believer of time. A watch hour dial hand is just a little Sun circling around the north pole in my eyes. Like I said a strange one. Maybe collecting any time pieces is for me. I honestly think 'time' is not going to be as important in the future. But keeping the knowledge of it will be. Also I would have loved to be a red uniform on Star Trek, I would have stole the show dying to the monster of the episode!

It's possible, but I'm not sure this watch came from there. I bought it at a local watch meet, from a guy who is a regular trader. I suppose there is no telling where it came from originally though. Someone clearly liked the watch and wore it quite a lot (as evident by the wear & damage to the case and bezel). I knew it could be mechanically sorted, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Believe me I didn't pay much for this watch when I got it! If I came across it online I probably wouldn't have ever considered buying it. BTW, really cool video on the WW1 Colt. I enjoyed watching that one. Jujubes was great!
