Whispers in the Garden

Ай бұрын

(with subtitles, plants name included)Join me in my garden before anyone else wakes up, at the beginning of the gardening season as I whip the garden into shape. This is my favorite time of the day - an unspoiled moment in the garden by myself. I open my garden to the public every July for Open Gardens WNY(www.OpenGardensWNY.com).

I am Jay, I ask strangers if I can see their gardens. New video on Fridays. This video is part of the " Can I see your garden? " series:

I recently found your videos and ended up watching all of them. I noticed how they made me feel as if I was there by myself and nature. If you take notice you can see how proud these gardeners are and should be. It takes a lot of hard work greatly provided by the owners. Some may pass beauty by and some such as myself wish to linger in the ever changing beauty right before our eyes. It also presents a view into how each of us sees beauty. Jay, your garden is beautiful! When if the next video, I'm hooked!!

What a wonderful tour, Jay - your garden is a dream. I imagine every gardener smiling as they saw your carts loaded with plants - we are all plant mad! I've pruned my Bloodgood maple quite vigorously and it always rebounds; it might be worth cutting out the dead parts and see if the remaining stems grow well. As far as Heuchera, I've grown 'Palace Purple' from seed for years and it is persistent in the rocky areas of my garden. Most of the newer hybrids fade away like yours have done - I grow them more successfully in large pots for the drainage and then overwinter them in the cold frame. The best Heuchera that I've grown are the H. villosa - they are native to the northeast - 'Autumn Bride' is spectacular for me and is winter persistent, doesn't mind my clay soil. This year I'm trying Heuchera x villosa 'Carnival Watermelon' and Heuchera villosa f. purpurea 'Bronze Wave' with the hopes that the villosa heritage will keep them perennialized. Enjoy your early morning walks through your garden - it is so lovely ❤

Greetings from Ireland, Beautiful garden, and beautiful containers, Its the bees knees. We have a small front garden with four flower beds and fifty eight pots. My wife has no interest in gardening and tells me the front garden looks like a mini garden centre. We have a glasshouse, a no dig veg bed, a lawn, seventeen water barrels, and a three bay compost system in the back garden. I plan to put in no dig flower beds in the back garden next autumn. There are loads of mature perennials in the front garden between the flower beds and pots that can be divided and I have loads of homemade compost that will do the job.

The Japanese maple with die back is frustrating. It may be saved, but years of growth may be sacrificed, depending on the remaining structure, and how much may need to be pruned to make the remaining tree presentable. I’m thinking of the bonsai world where a several foot tree can be cut back to less than a foot. The roots will be mature, so regrowth may be quicker.

I have problems growing Heuchera, at least the newer varieties. I bought two of the old fashioned green Heuchera plants after talking to my hair stylist. She said hummingbird love the flowers and they are very hardy in our zone 7a garden. Many Heuchera plants have died in my garden so like you I stopped buying them. Time will tell how they grow in my garden. Your garden is beautiful all times of the year. Did you ever count how many potted plants you grow through summer? I have about 50 or so and want to reduce that number because it is time consuming with watering and taking care of them. You are a very special gardener/videographer who takes excellent care of your garden and seems to really enjoy new-to-you gardens and respecta all types of gardeners. Thanks for sharing.

I lost heucheras planted in ground as well. However, I have had success with heuchera in pots on my deck (faces west, zone 5). I now enjoy heuchera leaves and flowers up close; beautiful color show all season long. Heuchera pots overwinter in unheated garage, water every 2 weeks in winter for some moisture. Groomed plants in April and heuchera are flowering now.
