Filmed on June 7, 2024. Friday's are always a very busy day on our vegetable farm. In todays video I check our greenhouses before packing our mobile produce trailer and box trucks for markets and talk a little about the Georgia produce we had delivered.

It is fascinating what it takes to grow, ship and sell your produce. Once again, I don't want to tell you how to run your business, but may I offer a few suggestions? First, you might want to take a look at redesigning your produce price signs a little. Any signage you have should have your name or at the very least, your logo on it. People have a tendency to remember images so when they look at your signs, you want to plant the image of your farm in their minds. You have a good logo, so maybe think about putting that on the left of the sign, and then the prices in the vacant space. That when they walk around the market, they remember the outstanding produce they got from you. They will look for the logo / image on the prices as well as the banner. That little "wishing well" and name is perfect for signs - even pricing signs. Secondly, you asked the other day for things we would like to see. I think a lot of people would like to see more of your sense of humor in the day to day operations. Don't take this the wrong way, but you have a wife of many years, several kids, work with kids and at least one dog. You have GOT to have a sense of humor to deal with that daily. You have made a few shorts that are humorous, but let us see your come out. Heck, your interaction with the dog following you was a good insight as we actually heard you laugh. You are more than plants, plastic and drip tape. Also, let the kids speak sometimes. You may think they are "normal" kids because of the area in which you live, but many people don't get to see, much less hear from hard working kids in physical jobs. I think people would like to hear from them. You can correct me if I am wrong, but your "audience" is more than other farmers. You are looking for "mainstream" viewers who buy produce and or may have small gardens of their own. People like to see what you are doing farming and even more a glimpse of the "people behind the dirt.") (And hydroponics.) Hope that make sense. Once again, not trying to tell you how to run your business, and feel free to tell me to take a flying leap into a pile of manure. :) Take care.

I really appreciate your feedback and suggestions. During my 20s and 30s the things you just mentioned were of the upmost importance to me while trying to build my business to where I wanted it to be. Like you mentioned we have a logo on our banner and we also have it on all of our social media accounts and business cards, but I decided not to put them on price cards because we go through so many of them and they’re so expensive, like we go through almost 1000 of them each season. They are constantly getting changed and thrown out as prices change throughout the season, so that’s why our logo and or Farm name is not on the price cards. Furthermore, over the past few years we have actually downsized our business about 20% to simplify and streamline things because it has grown into an animal almost too much for me to handle and I’m not interested in hiring full-time people or growing my business any larger than it is Now. I’m actually to the point now where I am wanting to downsize again and I really have no need to advertise my business at all like I used to. I used to do radio, commercials and print ads in the local newspapers, magazines, and other trade publications but don’t do any of it now because it’s not needed. Hope that makes sense. As far as my humorous side, I will definitely try to start adding more of that because I am not always serious and business like in my normal every day life. Not sure if you are aware, but I do have a personal channel under my name Jason Wish that showcases all of my backpacking and kayaking, RV camping and ultra racing and I think a lot of my humor comes out in those videos more so than the farming but I will try to lighten up a little bit ha ha. Thanks again for the detailed comment I really appreciate it, it’s fun to see what others think of what I’m doing. And sometimes it helps me do things smarter or different and more efficiently.

Hey tall dude, it’s Boyd right? Unfortunately I have to let you know that those are not our berries, those come from Wishnowsky farms in Florida, they rebranded their name to Wish Farms about five years ago. I know that gets confusing but we are Wishwell Farms and I don’t even grow strawberries any longer or wholesale to any supermarkets, we only direct Market our Produce at Farmers Markets. I wish I could claim that those were my berries, sorry

That’s a great question and a great topic to make a video on! I am an avid backpacker and kayak camper, ultra runner and RV camper. My wife joins me on the RV trips and the other ones normally I do solo or with friends. But all of those take time to plan and to carry out. I have another KZfaq channel where I showcase all of these adventures. youtube.com/@jasonwish-?si=-lFciNHeb1Rq2y0t For quickly winding down at the end of each day I normally eat dinner with my wife, now that my kids are all grown and hardly ever around, spend a little time editing and responding to comments and watch a little TV with her before bed. At least once or twice a week my wife and I will go out to dinner together or take a country drive with our dog to unwind and get away from the farm for a bit. I also have a video coming in the next week or two about things that produce Farmers never talk about that they have to do. It’s a whole other side of farming that most people don’t realize takes place behind-the-scenes. Ultimately I would not be able to stay sane and have a life that is content and fulfilled without my faith and my relationship with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Intresting how you with only a small volume of items, you can make profit with it. Here in brazil the same amount will not worth to go to any market. Here all that volume on 3 of those trucks together in one will be proftable. Maybe in USA fresh products are more valuable than here in Brazil
@wishwellfarms
@wishwellfarms Ай бұрын
It looks like a small right now because we are not harvesting our crops yet only Greenhouse tomatoes. In another six weeks every one of those five trucks on Saturdays will be mostly packed from top to bottom and front to back and generate almost $20,000 USD on Saturday alone. If that doesn’t sound like a lot then I don’t know what it is.

New subscriber. Good videos. One thing I noticed is that you can bring wholesale goods (out of state, etc.) to farmer's markets. That's a big no-no where I live.
@wishwellfarms
@wishwellfarms Ай бұрын
Thanks! We absolutely cannot sell wholesale goods at farmers markets only what we grow or we will be kicked out. The wholesale produce you saw in the video is only for our retail stand, we have two of them, one on our farm and a second one that is on a mobile produce trailer. The eight farmers markets that we attend are very strict about selling only what you grow and do farm inspections as well, which we appreciate very much because it keeps Farmers accountable.

Not having been to a farmers market recently, what’s the price per pound for those tomatoes? Or are they only sold by the box?
@wishwellfarms
@wishwellfarms Ай бұрын
This time of year we only sell them by the pound because of how high the input cost are to grow during the winter and spring. We start out at $3.50 per pound, which is exactly where we were last year. for several years prior to that we would start out at 2.95 a pound. Once we get to mid July this year‘s price will probably drop below three dollars per pound and eventually down to $2.50 per pound when field tomatoes arrive in August. At that time, we will also offer canning tomatoes by the bushel for about $30.
@azpcox
@azpcox Ай бұрын
@@wishwellfarms thanks for that info. We have bought romas by the box in years past for like $50? And we used them for canning and sauces. I need to support more local farmers. :)

How do you pollinate your tomatoes
@trendinvestor2893
@trendinvestor2893 Ай бұрын
I believe he uses bees that are delivered in boxes. Last year when bees were not available, he used an electric toothbrush.
@wishwellfarms
@wishwellfarms Ай бұрын
Tomatoes are self pollinating when outdoors because of the wind and other natural pollinators flying around, but inside a greenhouse that’s sealed up tight during winter and spring we have to assist in pollination like @trendinvestor2893 mentioned. We use domesticated bumblebees that are delivered in a box and they last about two months, but they are very expensive and we only use one hive and move it around to a different greenhouse each day. Once they die off, it’s starting to warm up outside and we have the sides of the greenhouses rolled up and the natural breezes pollinate the tomatoes just fine. I have a video about this deeper back into my channel, but I should’ve made a new one this year but I forgot. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b9eSZruhzrqnaWg.htmlsi=kfBCtHRs34X2krYj kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a86aq9eSzKzbqWQ.htmlsi=8Ij2-UlcGDO6nj6I

Where do you pick up the Georgia produce ???
@wishwellfarms
@wishwellfarms Ай бұрын
We work with a wholesale produce company that makes a route nearby us that drops off what we need. I place the order two days ahead and they bring it by in a semi, and I fork it off and put it in my cooler. I will try to show the ordering and delivery in a future video! They begin in Florida and then move through Georgia and we’re currently starting to get some things in North Carolina and Tennessee and in another week or two a lot of southern Ohio and southern Indiana produce will begin coming in. By late July, we don’t really need them much because we will have all of our own crops, except peaches and potatoes.
