Watch this short video for a quick overview of how to create a hollow pendant in sterling silver with diamonds and a green quartz stone set in it.
Janet is an accomplished metal artist with my work shown in museums, published in several books and magazines including on the cover of Lapidary Journal Jewelry Artist, The Gemmys 2015, 500 Rings, and more. Additionally, her tutorials are published in books and magazines. She demonstrated how to carve wax models and lost wax casting on the HGTV show Crafters Coast to Coast.
Janet has taught metalsmithing at conventions and gem shows for over 12 years and private lessons for over 20 years. She has a BFA in metals from the University of North Texas and studied under many master jewelers.

Nice boxwork! Not many jewellers do hollow forms anymore. Good to see proper use of tools too. I'll definitely recommend your videos.

Maybe because they are "easy" to ruin by pressure, and hard to (unless someone knows a trick, to not needing to take it apart and resolderit) repair. I own an oldcross, that someone must have bitten into, with engravings, that has 2 or 3 dents, that I'm not eager to start to try to repair - can't find anything anywhere about how to.

That's such a pretty pendant: I would totally wear that with pride. I am, I think, an intermediate silversmith, completely addicted to jewellery and constantly searching for information and inspiration so thank you for sharing

What was on the brush that u wiped on the jewelry, flux?
@JanetAlexanderJewelry
@JanetAlexanderJewelry 6 ай бұрын
It's just a cheap craft brush. I mix Handy Flux with My-T-Flux. Handy Flux gives a temperature reading, when it goes clear, the metal is up to temperature. The My-T-Flux is a self pickling and cleans the metal for a more successful soldering experience

The hardest thing about being creative, is how to make money on it.. Those of you who are in that situation, might "enjoy" Jordan Peterson's "The curse of creativety" also here on YT.

I just watched some of it, he is a very pessimistic person toward the arts. Everyone is creative, in their own passion. He sounds like one of the promoters of removing art from schools, which has become so sad to see. Creative people include actors, video game animators, film animators, playwrights, landscape architects, building architects, musicians, any entertainer, painters, sculptors, furniture designers, car designers, and so on. Not one manufactured item in this world wasn't created by a creative person. Many have become successful in their art. It's just that a lot of artists are not trained in business and promotion. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of North Texas. At that time they didn't require art majors to take accounting and business classes. I wish I had. Many people have a hard time selling, which is why there are specific people who excel at it. It takes a certain personality to sell art or that matter anything that doesn't pertain to survival.

@@JanetAlexanderJewelry I see your viewe of the definition as degrading the word. If everyone is creative, the word is waste of time. It's like saying "All humans are breathers" - a waste of time sentence. I agree with the part about not being able to make cash, bcz we didn't know enough about it, but that goes to every personally owned job. And a stroll around most curent art galleries prove, that it has very little to do with the quality of the art, who gets to be attempted monitized. When most people can do something, it's nothing special, and that's the case with most modern art.
