Public opposition quickly formed the Bradford Odeon Rescue Group (BORG), whose campaign included a "Hug the Odeon" event in July 2007 in which an estimated 1,000 people encircled the building in a human chain. BORG's supporters include Richard Attenborough, George Clarke and Jonathan Foyle.

I remember this day well. Myself and colleagues from the Alhambra theatre came out to show our support. We held the signs. Chris Berry, Richard Russell, Christian Carroll, Chris Anyon, Ross Grant and Cathy Hardisty. There were more but they're not shown

The Gaumont cinema, (aka The Odeon), is a monument to Bradford's past. The Beatles appeared there in the 1960s. As a former Bradford Councillor, I am ashamed by the way this unique building has been handled by those who claim to represent the community.

Seeing Bradford town in 2007 was fairly nostalgic to watch in this video, I would’ve been 7 or 8 when this was recorded depending on the month. Seeing what has changed and stayed the same was interesting. Definitely brought back some childhood memories of how it used to look.

The odeon building is an amazing structure. The memories it holds for me, from the first time I set foot there in 1977 for 'The Spy Who Loved Me' to the last film I saw there, 'Blade', before it closed. It had style, as did the old ABC cinema on what was Broadway. A style modern multiplex's lack by the bucket load.

Its down to these very people that this magnificent structure is still standing. Really pisses me off when i see Bradford council try to take any credit for saving this building, the fact they've gone over double the original budget in restoring it a testament to their inability to do anything right. Oh and still no opening date lol.
