This winter we are expecting a La Niña Phase in the Pacific Ocean. The could mean we see a wetter than normal winter, but does that mean it will be a snowier than normal winter as well? Watch for more and read here: www.wcpo.com/weather/weather-...

I have lived in the Ohio Valley for most of my life. There is ONE constant here: the weather is unpredictable at best. There’s an expression here: “If you don’t like the weather, wait fifteen minutes; it will change.” One of my favorite memories was the Blizzard of 1978. Only ONE meteorologist predicted a blizzard. The others said “I can’t see a blizzard”. We received eighteen inches of heavy, wet snow before the bottom fell out of the temperature. At midnight is was 33 degrees F; at 6:00 the next morning it was -10F.

yes and also I heard that one a lot when I lived in Lubbock for college. An excellent expression. Best example I remember was a span in spring, April 2009 when one week it was 90’s hot like good ole Texas summer. Next week it snowed and stormed, and the next week it thurnderstormed and hailed before spring ended and we went into the typical Texas summer heat pattern. Yep! crazy!

So you are talking about specific events that took place, a large snow storm, however when you look at the overall data for an entire year that system as impressive as it may seem was only a tiny tiny small fraction of the totals. For example if the underground water lake (aquafer) is empty and you have a large snow storm that might fill it by 1% but it is still 99% empty, that is a major issue. A drought is not over just because a large snow storm occurred, you need consistent rain over long period of time, weeks, months to end a drought and refill the ground water storage table.

The central midwest is done. Kiss agriculture goodbye. SW Nebraska as been in severe drought for more than 2 years. Farmers were praying for heavy snow this winter, so to make up for the absent rainfall. If we do not get above-average snowfall this winter, there will be no agriculture remaining in Nebraska - the croplands will be totally destroyed - along with all beef production. 1000s of farms and ranches will go under. If you think beef is expensive now, wait and see where the prices go by next Spring. You will need a bank loan to buy hamburger - and a second mortgage on your home to afford steak or roast. Get used to eating soy and bugs - because that is all there will be to eat. Oh yeah, forget about ethanol for gasoline. Nebraska is the largest corn producung state in the US - and there is no corn crop this year. There will not be any next year either. same goes for wheat, milo, sugar beats, alfalfa and soy beans. Perhaps Mr. "Weatherman" finds this amusing - but we farmers are at the end of our rope. Maybe Mr. Weatherman's smile will disappear when he is facing starvation, because all US crop and food production has ceased for lack of rain / snow.

Actually we have only had two triple dip lanina on record once in the 1970 era and once in the 2000 era and they were the coldest longest freek winters Siberian snow pack has already double from last year and upp Colorado basin snow pack is up 229% from this time last year you might want to get a warm jacket it's going to be a super cold winter it all starts in Siberia and blast trough Canada it's already happening you get an AR atmosphereic river to hit Cali to boot and it's coming drought is over as it always has ended look up the snow pack USGS currently and look up those triple dip lanina from those years

I’m confused. I thought we’d been in a La Niña condition for several years and that’s why we’ve been in such a long drought? In California, when we have El Niños, we have record rainfall and record snowfall. So, what’s so rare about a La Niña?

Especially when it's the third year in a row and by his stats it happens over a third of the winters?

If there has been 12 la ninas in the past 30 years, how does that equal a RARE la nina this winter?

He said this is the 3rd year for la Nina, funny this is the first year I hear of a la Nina for awhile live in Montana where that jet stream showed, and we weren't in a la Nina the last 2 years, but he himself doesn't know what he is talking about bc he said we will see....hmmmm
