A rare recording of the voice of Helen Schucman

Helen Schucman describes the 'Voice' which revealed ACIM to her. This rough, 13-minute recording by James Bolen, is more of a casual chat with Helen, rather than a formal interview. It was recorded at a party in California in 1976 (you can hear music, voices and the clink of glasses in the background).

When I started ACIM - I found it upsetting and achingly beautiful at the same time. When upset and panicking, an inner voice instructed me on several occasions to "just stay still" and "stop panicking, you're not alone"!

Helen was an atheist.. she said " I don't believe it but I know its true" Thank you for putting this up! ACIM has changed my life and has helped me get along better in this insane world.. Thank Helen Shuckman, Thank you Bill Thetford.. 🙏❤🎇

ACIM, the Seth material and The Law of One all came out about the same time and in the US. Maybe we had a light then... some hope. Now we're in slivers. Here's to everyone forgetting about borders and remembering our beautiful Earth. It needs triage and love can fix it. ✨🍃🌏💫🦋🕉️💙✨ Sending great big hugs from my heart to all you dear people.

It's called Holy Inspiration. The divine feelings evoke a sound that in purity strikes the inner ear of listening that as vibrations occur, interpretations happen into symbols that express themselves. Thank you Mrs. Shucman for your devotion to God.

After hearing Helen speak I feel very much that the person or entity speaking in the course is different from her. Obviously this is so since she didn’t author the course, but hearing her speak just makes it so clear that someone/something else authored that course and she was truly the scribe

What a New Yorker...when Jesus speaks to you, you KNOW it is HIM! That I am sure of as he has been speaking to me for a long time now. He spoke to me throughout the court cases in which FIP took action against me in the United States and Australia. When he speaks to me or shows me VISIONS it is quite unique. It does not occur as it did for Helen, where it can be heard any time any place, but when Jesus wants me to understand something, or has something to tell me, he will just step into my mind and communicate.

Wow! Thank you for posting this! I've studied the Course for 25 years and I believe this is the first time I've heard Helen speak! It really helps me connect with the history of my beloved ACIM.

Yes, me too! I was very emotional when I first heard it. Judy Skutch Whitson thinks it's the ony recording of Helen that exists.

Wow! When I think Helen/Bill, Joel Goldsmith and Bill/LoisWilson [AA/Al-Anon] all came out of NYC at about the same time, I am in awe and so very grateful.

Also Dr. David R. Hawkins was a psychiatrist practicing in NY at that time, and he knew Helen Shucman. Dr Hawkins is the author of Power vs. Force and others.

Thank you for posting this. I think it is helpful to hear her description. The course continually asks us to ask Jesus/Holy Spirit for help, and the answer will be given. It has been my experience, and I am grateful.

Thank you for sharing this. This is a wonderful example and reminder that those who receive the message are NOT necessarily meant to be the example/embodiment of the message itself. This time period was also when Jane Roberts received The Seth Materials.

The Ra Material came within that era as well, in the early 80s. That was my first exposure to the wild world of channeled materials. Pretty incredible content, much of it correlates with ACIM but there are of course discrepancies too. I'm still early in ACIM but so far I'm really enjoying actively comparing the two. Could probably write a dissertation😂

The Voice for God makes no sound, yet is heard still. We are so used to thinking in terms of words, yet this akin more to concept transference. It uses words, only, because we think we need words. (Human beings when created were given two major characteristics which would define their evolution: opposable thumbs [tool making] and voice boxes [words]. Imagine a world without these.) The Voice is a bridge connecting the world to Heaven; it is set in the sands, but reaches the One. Truly, the one thing that all words have in common is that they come from silence. That they share! Be still, then, and hear, in loving silence , the Voice for God proclaim your eternal sinlessness. It will originate from the center of a sphere and move outward to cover everything you perceive. Peace, Joy, Light.

Interesting how Helen says she tried to lose the Course (12:25) , but it was impossible. I've tried for 35yrs and the Course remains with me when the sun sets and is there a new when the sun rises again.😁

This guy keeps back to a line of question about "hearing" something when she quite clearly said it was not a "hearing;" not a voice. Either he can't hear or he is intent on tripping her up.

That's fascinating. I had always heard the book was channeled but what she's describing sounds like dictation which she "heard" through clairaudience. The Seth books were channeled. Jane Roberts had no knowledge of what she had said when the sessions were over.

I would ask her if time was spent at work at her University where she works on this course when she was responsible for completing her duties did she take time away from her job to scribe the course during working hours I don't care one way or another it was just a thought

She said that evenings were a favoured time for the Voice to come. And she resented that imposition!

She and Bill met in the morning before work to type up what she had taken down the night before…before work….both Helen and Bill were very serious about the work they did at Columbia

She did not believe in this course in Miracles but she felt she had to scribe it we know this we know that she did not believe in this course because her friend Kenneth wapnick informed us or his lectures that she did not believe what she was doing she did not believe in it whatever that means

It is said, I think by Kenneth Wapnick, that Helen "knew it was true but she didn't believe it". This seems to reflect the parts in all our minds that recognises the truth but is resistent to it.

I agree that it's quite difficult. Unfortnately, the recording was impromptu, made at a cocktail party in 1976. I suppose the music was from the party. I'm sure the recording wasn't intended to be widely heard, but it's almost all we have of Helen.

I know, it's a great pity. Back then, I suppose, there weren't the facilities for recording things. And, remember that she didn't want publicity so normally avoided saying things in public. I wonder if she was actually even aware that this conversation was being recorded.

@Miracle Network on KZfaq I don’t understand why she was “still a little uncomfortable with the material”, and why she was extremely angry with the course on her death bed saying stuff like it was the worst thing that ever happened to her. Imagine if this whole course is a massive deception that could cause Permanent Damage 4:17 5:24 almost like the snake in the garden of eden

@@Magnet12 I think it's important to recognise that there is a part of all of us that is resistant (this is the ego). It's the part of us that fears the loss of itself when we return to God. The trick is to practice not identifing with the ego and to choose spirit, instead. Helen was particularly stongly identified with the ego, which makes the whole story more amazing! Take a look at Ken Wapnick's book 'Absence from Felicity'.

I would also ask her if she knew anything about loving people did she love her husband did he love her did they have any children did she enjoy being educated as a younger person did she know what she wanted to do with her life Kenneth wapnick said when he found Helen schucman and was offered the position associated with the course that he Kenneth wapnick found his calling I would do almost anything to find my calling perhaps it already came and I rejected it I hope not that would be awful to know that you rejected your life's purpose I don't think that happened anyway it's a shame that there are not more videos of her talking about the course and talking about her life and try to explain how this scribing mechanism took place like a voice in their head I know they talked about that but she said it wasn't a voice in their head her mind okay the way Kenneth wapnick spoke about her it must have been a very interesting time for Kenneth wapnick Bill Thetford in Helen oh and there was another lady I don't remember her name
