I am really impressed by the way Shefali ji elaborated on the concept of women empowerment in India, and her each and every word is very true.. We have to really understand our own roots and not follow the Western concept of feminism blindly.. our country and culture has everything we need to be successful and happy, we need not copy outsiders..

Bhagwaan Shiva appeared in the form of Lingam (an infinite pillar). I saw a video of a Mulla was making of mockery of Shiva Lingam using the same words. This is a part of a larger way of thinking, and is very useful for the politicians. The low 3% rate of growth in the ‘60s and ‘70s was miscalled the “Hindu rate” of growth. It was actually the Nehruvian- or the Congress rate of growth. They forgot that per-invasion India was the single most important trader and economy in the world. The point is not that doing karva chauth is uncool and unfeminist. It is not. But if only women are supposed to do karva chauth for their husbands and husbands are not expected to do the same for their wives, then there isn’t a balance. If all Hindu women are socially pressured to do karva chauth whether or not they want to do so, then it is unfair to those women who don’t want to do karva chauth. A modern educated society must give freedom of choice to live the way anyone wants to live. What is feminism? Giving women choices, empowering them? Creating a society where men respect women? I think every Hindu woman who is married must decide for herself if she wants to do karva chauth or not without being pressured or shamed. Every Hindu husband must also feel free to do karva chauth if he wants to without being ridiculed. There should be no social pressure that cripples a person’s choices.

Why should karva chauth become such a huge festival? How come there are other festivals that are for the well being of the husband or son? Doesn't that show a mindset that tells you that the the male figure is necessary in a woman's life? I think that is parochial. It restricts the vision and capabilities of a woman. In the name of Sanatan Dharm, we seem to be going back to the restrictive mode for womanly activity. This was never the case in ancient Bhaarat but is more of a middle ages and Victorian era social lifestyle which we want to follow.

*Women empowerment has nothing to do with "women having to become manly" or "Men becoming feminine" ! It's just about NOT being an AUTHORITARIAN bug. It's about not telling (pushing) people how to live "properly" according to one's "gender". It's about not telling women that their "ideal" job is to raise children, telling men to not show the emotional breakdown, when one really wants to just cry out loud.* A person irrespective of their gender, whether it's men, women, LGBTQ+, we all have standard common life cycles. And the philosophy of *"Libertarianism"* is to *"live and let live."* It's all about, irrespective of their gender, race, "self pro-claimed" religion (it should not be something you be born with ! Or get indoctrinated before reaching the age of independent decision making which could be the time of adolescence) , or age, or any other divisive categorical factors, just letting "person" to choose their destiny. Their own personal values, personal choices, preferences, personal taste and lifestyle. Philosophy of "Libertarianism" is just about *prioritizing "Person" over "Society" and "Social norms".* You simply do not bug people around with "what to do", "How to live", "What's their supposed gender role", "What's the better religion, if any !", "How to respect traditions", "What to eat", "What to wear" etc. many nuisances. You simply do not impose your values, your religion, your social norms, your political ideology on to other persons, not even your family members. Let people choose what suits them organically. (whether it's the capitalist, conservative hyper-nationalist, fascist, or communist or socialist, you don't force people, neither do moral policing) *You do not "indoctrinate" people, neither you do moral policing on free persons.* Neither there's a need to "Glorify" certain culture, race, tradition, religion, hyper-Nationalism etc. nor there's a need to deliberately "Demean" either of them with out proper reason, whether it comes from narrow "conservatism" or militant "Woke"-ness. Don't be obsessed with your value sets, or patronize it over others' when there's no disrupting of "personal freedom" of any individual. *Simply, don't be a "Pandit"* (expert authority) of everything, just *"LET PEOPLE BE".* Is that that hard to understand ?

What is the real behavior of society? The reality is that 90% of Indian women are made to suffer at the hands of family and have to agree to all their husband's demands. And in practice that is considered as being Sat Savitri. Also, the word Sati represents a lot more than just following Yama, is it not the word that represents the horrific practice of self-immolation at the husband's pyre? We Hindus know how to gloat but in practice have not changed and the funny thing is it is the women who are there at the forefront to justify old traditions and practices. My grandfather had banned the Karva Chauth fast in the family as he thought it was demeaning for women. Do men keep any such fast for their wives? After his death, my sister on her own started keeping it and so are her daughters-in-law.

Ratna Pathak is sadly misunderstood! She has contempt for "educated" Hindu women who are superstitious enough to pray for their husbands' welfare. Is she wrong? No, because she has attained "enlightenment" (far beyond just education) by marrying a man whose holy book preaches that a woman is worth only half as much as a man! When such an "enlightened" lady labels her Hindu counterparts as superstitious she MUST be right, no? And, having been enlightened by her husband that she is less than his equal, naturally she believes that trying to pray for him is a waste of time! What's wrong with that, eh? And of course she has reason to believe that Hindus are superstitious .............unlike her "enlightened" self! Does she not know that Hindus believe the Earth to be a globe, and that Earth and other solar planets orbit around the Sun? Does she not know, from her Islamic spouse and his holy book, that the Earth is flat and the Sun and Moon go around it as ordered by Allah? When she is "blessed" with so much of enlightenment, how dare any of us question her words or sentences (a.k.a verdicts) on all matters? So let us just say "ameen" to her and consider ourselves blessed that she even condescends to insult us!!😆😆😆😆😆😆

Has anyone seen Nuclear Reactor and noticed it's shape ? It's just like a Shivlinga. Why ? It's something to do with very high energy inside the nuclear reactor and helping it to cool it faster than any other geometric shape. Sameway, all Jyotirlinga are very high energy source and it needs to be cooled off with continuous dripping of water. Hence, this supercharged water needs to be taken out properly with it's proper base. Westerners have taught us wrong about our own Sanatan Dharma.

Just putting it out there India ranks 135/146 countries in terms of Gender Equality ... While I do agree ancient India "WAS" way more liberal than the West in the past, to say women are already empowered is truthfully naive statement.. And mind you statistics are a good enough indicator of what social problems persist. Only 25% females of the age groups 15-49 are employed as compared to 75% males. The problem arises when Myths and Religious figures are confused with current affairs, public policy and governance. Walk down the roads of a red light area, go to villages see the condition of schools, look at the surveys conducted, and see the condition of the youth of this nation and then let's make statements about Feminism.

Those women who considered them selves reduced to a "vagina" have them selves tried to use that part of their anatomy to further their life's interest, some time or the other or rather, always. When that part, the "vagina" loses its sheen or its lustre or its novelty due to aging or over-usage or over-exposure or whatever, they are the first to cry hoarse. Our Sanatan culture has never tried to demean any part of the anatomy of a woman for personal gains any time. Rather it has glorified the virtues of womenkind which are primarily unseen like the physical strength (resilence) or the mental strength (brain-power) and have never suppressed or tried to suppress it. Let the ones who have always suppressed their women, looked at their women just in terms of deriving physical pleasures and seal-packed their women from head-to-toe and the ones who have very gladly subscribed to such way of life not lecture us on our culture or our way of life.
