This one's a bit longer but I think it's understandable... also I'm preparing you all for how long the next Highlights video is gonna be lol. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this collection of my personal favorite moments from Critical Role Campaign 2 Episode 140!
Also, if you notice that all the shots of Liam are really choppy, it's because his camera just seemed to be that way in the Twitch VOD. I didn't check the KZfaq VOD to see if it was the same because there was no way I was redoing all his parts at that point either way lmao. I'm sure it's not a big deal but it was personally bothering me while I was editing, so I figured I'd mention it!

You'll figure out how to fix it, clever boy! You don't like that gentleman? Guess what, hon? He's undead! Oh dear! *You're dead?* No, not yet. You need knowledge to end this world threatening thing? Just imagine if you had that side quest in a video game. No objective marker, no clue how to do it, but when you get to the end of the game, if you didn't make the right choices, the side quest would just say "failed" and you would be like, "WAIT, WHAT?? WHAT??? HOL' UP!!!" Then you replay the game, making different choices, and then find out that the "true ending" completes that side quest.

Ashley Johnson feels her characters emotions so deeply - there’s a moment from Campaign one where she broke down as Pike and it tears at my soul every time I rewatch it. This moment does the same thing. I love Ashley so so much.

Just like with Grog, Yasha is a barbarian and while she is good at a lot of things and very powerful, she knows that she just can't do what others can. @@heartofdawnlight It takes 10 minutes to cast Raise Dead, which is the transmuter stone’s ability, so no dice. It negates the spell slot expended, but it still takes the time to cast the spell.

The part that breaks me the most? Essek: "It's not fair.... It's not fair. You've all come so far.... It's just not fair." These people brought love and purpose to this man who lived his life in search of power, listlessly seeking to gather more and more. They took this broken man who did horrible things and accepted him, wholeheartedly, into their inner circle. These people he betrayed on such an intense level before he ever knew them, and in his desperation to keep watch on them, he found that they cared for him, and he for them. They took him and they put him on a better path and they *believe* so intensely in his ability to be better than who he was that he himself finds that he's starting to believe it, too. I fully, truly, honestly believe if Essek knew a spell that would swap his life for Molly's, in that moment, he would have cast it without warning them, without allowing them to stop him. Because for all his power, he believes it to be worth nothing when weighed against the love and loyalty he has for them, and they to each other.

I think it might also be so powerfull bc its not "just" Essek speaking, but probably also Matt. I mean they had this beautifull ritual, (presumably) suceeded all of the checks, just for the deciding roll to be a nat 1. Not fair :(

what's always gotten me is earlier matt says that Essek was saving his 8th(9th? I can't remember exactly) level spell. Pretty sure it was for something exactly like that, which is what makes the heartbreak on matt's face that much worse

Liam was so creative in this fight. Realising he can manipulate the area with his mind and using it to both attack Lucian (with the weapon that killed Molly, no less), as well as moving Jester's body closer to the only person who could revive her was genious.

Yup, and I think Matt was building up to that with Lucien’s hand twitch when Jester said “rebirth” and then Lucien’s arm stopping when he tried to hit Beau, and she reminded Molly of Gustav. It’s also interesting to think about Molly gaining specific use of Lucien’s arms, when he used it to do the brain melting move on Beau.

The acting from Ashely as she is crying talking to Caleb is masterful I think that all of them are masterful at this craft but there are moments that shine brighter to me of their performance and that moment made me burst into tears so hard dude. Ugh Amazing

So apart from the emotional rollercoaster, this episode must have been terrifying from character perspective. Those wings attack 6 times per round. That is one attack each second. Every second they fight, there are these wings like a meat grinder, hacking your friends into lifeless husks. That is some serious trauma material. I second this. They're very, very handy and help me with things my adhd didn't let me catch, especially the quiet asides. The "my child's mother" and "my parents always told me this is how I was going to die" had me cackling and I did not notice that while actually watching the ep.

this episode was just..... physically exhausing. before 140, i wanted C2 to never end. after 140.... i think that's been enough. i'm ready for C3, whenever it comes. edit: this isn't supposed to be a knock against c2! i'm just saying that this penultimate episode really had such a strong finale vibe that i'm now more accepting of the idea of C3 coming up. Mercer tweeted a couple weeks ago, "If you've trusted us enough to follow our game this long, I would ask you to trust us that we want the players to feel satisfied with the end." imo, we can trust his storytelling abilities by now.

while i really loved c2 in the beginning and thought o'd love the characters even more than the c1 characters i must be honest, C2 somehow started to feel a lot more tedious than C1. i have no idea what it really is, but there is something different with the characters. something alienating, that wasn't present in c1 (for me). C2 is just far more exhausting and feels like the highs are not as high as in C1.

Same here. This is a beautiful end point. From the beginning they wanted to be unsung heroes, and now they have saved literally the entire world. They got their friend back. Fjord found his true self, found solace in a goddess that also wants him to be true to himself, found love and has a lifelong journey of protecting that last crystal (and maybe a one-shot of taking some of the others back to lock uk'otoa up further). Jester found her dad, got her parents together, has a best friend arch fey and found real love instead of the fairy tales from books. Caleb has outgrown his tormentor and while it'd be nice to see trent kick it on thursday, having his former play-thing find him trivial is an amazing revenge, he has people to call family again and people who love him. Beau has grown, one-upped her dad, stopped a war and helped root out a point of corruption in the cobalt soul. Veth got herself and her family back. Yasha has come into her own, is a champion of the god who saved her, and has found love again. Cad saved his grove, saved his family, fulfilled the role the Wildmother needed of him (and is officially her favorite cleric). Their stories won't truly end until they all pass from the world, but we don't need to follow them for the next 50 years. This is a beautiful, meaningful, hopeful and entirely positive end point.

Liam was on fire this episode. He went into this fight with a very different approach compared to the others it feels like. Travus/Fjord with Marine Layer finally getting to work properly because that was clutch there with both clerics at 1 HP only the fireball eye could target and then Travis took care of it! To add onto what some others have said. Do not stress or go overboard with trying to get 141 out since we have heard how long it's going to be. Take care of yourself first!

I love how many of the great rolls in this episode were in something that basically defines the character. Beau got two natural 20s being badass and physically fighting. Jester got one using her great imagination to basically will the bag of holding back to her against all odds. Caduceus got the 2/100 being a laidback but badass cleric of the wildmother, let alone reviving his own character in a meta way. I mean what a great episode to define what the Mighty Nein are all about.

This episode will at LEAST be a good 6+ hours (minus the ending art roll and dead time between reruns), longer than any one single episode (and I watched the Vecna fight live...). I'm so glad it happened this way. I was in the "let him rest" camp. I was happy to see the nat1, so he could have his rest and be at peace. And I think if that first roll had succeeded, it wouldn't have been satisfying. Being a comic book reader, where there's too much "oh look, so & so is dead. Wonder how many issues that will last," I think death in D&D is sometimes too cheap. Revivify works, but being able to resurrect someone who's been dead for months is a stretch. But because it took a literal miracle, it felt earned. It had a triumphant catharsis that just a basic resurrection doesn't. Coming back from the dead should feel special, and this definitely felt special.
